If you’re looking for a weekend away with your partner, here are 14 romantic getaways in Virginia to consider!
I love a romantic getaway! Sometimes you can only afford one night away due to cost or childcare, and sometimes one night is all you need to get the romance going again! These spots across the state are all beautiful properties from boutique to affordable that ensure you’ll have a restful night’s sleep and have plenty to see and do.
Is Virginia worth visiting for some romance?
“Virginia is for Lovers” after all. Whether you’re looking for a fancy hotel or a quaint B&B, there are a huge variety of hotels and rentals to choose from many with special romance packages. And you also have your choice of mountains or beach and everything in between! Sit by the pool or go on a hike; sip Virginia wine in wine country or hit up a historic site – all while holding hands of course!

I have been to most of these properties and can vouch for their amenities and service. And I can’t wait to visit the few on our bucket list.
Farmhouse at Veritas

Built in 1836, this bed and breakfast can be found just outside of Charlottesville in Afton, Virginia. This beautiful farmhouse consists of six cozy bedrooms boasting amazing views, an event space to host weddings or parties, and is located right next to Veritas Vineyard.
Wine hour 5-6 every evening. Your room also receives a complimentary bottle of Veritas wine with two glasses. They also offer four-course, farm-to-table dinners Tuesday through Saturday that include wine pairings. We did one years ago and it was amazing! One thing to note for dinners, however, they do not allow children under 16 years of age.

Primland Resort

This 12,000 acre mountain estate is a hidden gem in the middle of western Virginia. We spent a weekend here a few years back with a big group, and it was incredible. An Auberge resort, the rooms are so luxurious, and the food across the property was amazing as well. You can stay in the main lodge, in a cottage, or even a treehouse. Includes golfing, a sporting club with pheasant shoots and hunting, and a wellness spa that has an indoor pool and hot tub to use as well.

Keswick Hall & Spa
This luxury property is located just outside of Charlottesville. It’s an estate hotel with uber luxury rooms and the most beautiful infinity pool. Keswick is my go-to spa in town – the nicest spa ever with high end products, an infrared sauna, and a gorgeous relaxation room. Threre’s also lovely golf course and a new fitness center. Eat at the renowned Marigold by Jean-Georges or Crawford’s, which serves cocktails and small menu plates.

The Historic Inn at Oakdene

Built in 1893, this mansion is the most luxurious place to stay in downtown Staunton – about 30 minutes from Charlottesville. Built for former Lieutenant Governor Edward Echols, the property has eight rooms all with king-size bedding, a game room, two sunrooms, and an outdoor patio with fire pit tables. It’s a self-service inn through Be Still Getaways, and we loved feeling like we were staying in someone’s house. The linens, bedding, and bathrooms were so nice and recently renovated. Visit restaurants in downtown Staunton, nearby wineries, hiking trails, and more.

Jefferson Hotel

One of my favorite places to stay in Richmond is the Jefferson Hotel, which is one of the nicest properties in the city. You can choose between a guest room or a suite, and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. Enjoy breakfast or lunch at TJ’s Restaurant and then drinks and dinner at Lemaire. Every Sunday, there is also a champagne brunch as well as afternoon tea on Friday and Saturday. The Jefferson has a fitness center, indoor pool, and also offers massages.

The Clifton

Located right here in Cville, this is where we were married! You can either stay in the main house, which has B&B style rooms, or in one of the cottages or livery stable houses if you want more privacy and space. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the 1799 Restaurant, which also has a lovely back verandah. (The Copper Bar has an amazing smoked Old Fashioned!). The grounds and gardens are very pretty to stroll through. There is an infinity pool, hot tub, and even a hidden lake!

Williamsburg Inn

The Williamsburg Inn is the jewel of Colonial Williamsburg as a luxury four-star resort with 62 ornate rooms available. The property opened in 1937 and planned and built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. Enjoy room service, the fitness center, high tea, or head out into town for exciting historical sites and entertainment. Eat at Rockefellers, and enjoy a drink at Restoration Bar. The spa is also very, very nice and I enjoyed a great massage there!

Iris Inn
If you’re looking for a mountain getaway, the Iris Inn near Waynesboro, Virginia is one of my all-time favorite stays! You have your choice of rooms in the main inn or one of the cabins. We stayed in a cabin which was private, spacious, and each has its own hot tub! There is a spa on site, as well as breakfast and dinner in the Great Room (breakfast is included!)

Venture out to Historic Staunton and Waynesboro and access to 28 different wineries as well as hiking trails, Shenandoah National Park, and the homes of four different presidents. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive are close by with favorite hikes like Humpback Rock and Crabtree Falls both within 30 minutes.
Inn at Willow Grove
If you’re searching for peace and quiet in the countryside, head to the Inn at Willow Grove. Nestled on 40 acres in the middle of Virginia countryside, the inn is located in Orange, Virginia (also home to Woodberry Forest School if you’ve heard of it).

We stayed in one of their Creekside Cottages, which was very very nice! We had a porch and swing. If you’re there in the summer, promenade the grounds and take a dip in the Millhouse saltwater pool. They also have a full spa on site. Vintage restaurant and pub offers dinner and drinks, full breakfast, and Sunday brunch.

The Homestead

We’ve been to the Homestead several times and find it to be a great all-in-one property. It’s slowly undergone a renovation too, so while it still feels very vintage, the accommodates are modern and luxurious. The property is huge with multiple restaurants, shopping, golf, and a spa. The spa and the hot springs traditions around it are one of the best features. Get a day pass, or use the facilities with any spa treatment. The aqua thermal suite is quite fun!

The Georges
The Georges is a boutique inn in Lexington, Virginia, about an hour’s drive from Charlottesville. So it’s the perfect spot for a romantic night away!
The Georges opened in 2014 and is spread out between several different historic buildings on Main Street in Lexington. There are 33 rooms and suites spread among the historic buildings that are each uniquely designed with modern amenities to reflect the duality of the destination. There are two restaurants – Haywood’s Piano Bar and Grill, the inn’s signature restaurant across the street, and TAPS, the lobby bar and lounge serving small plates and drinks. TAPS is also where breakfast is served.

Three romantic hotels I have yet to try!
Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club
Overlooking the Atlantic ocean, this is the place to stay at Virginia Beach. Their beach club includes an infinity pool, private beach access, open-air bar, and a climate-controlled members lounge. Or relax in the Seahill spa.
Salamander Resort and Spa
Located in Middleburg, just an hour outside of D.C., this award-wining property is first in the area to win the Forbes Five Star Award. There’s an equestrian Center located on the grounds as well as tennis courts and golfing and lawn games. I’ve heard the spa is very nice!
Greenbrier Resort
West Virginia’s Greenbrier Resort is another large, historic property (going back before the Civil War to 1778!) that has so many activities. I can’t believe I haven’t been before! They have golf, pools, a spa, a casino, a climbing tower, an arcade, bowling, mountain biking, fishing, horseback riding, an indoor pool, and more!
