MAN v FAT to team up with Leeds Rhinos Foundation

MAN v FAT is proud to announce that we are set to team up with Leeds Rhinos Foundation to help launch our newest MAN v FAT Rugby club in the city.

The club is set to officially kick off on the 9th of June, offering local men a unique opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing through the sport of rugby.

MAN v FAT is specifically designed for men with a BMI of 27.5 or higher, combining the camaraderie and competitiveness of rugby with structured weight loss support. Participants engage in weekly touch rugby games, receive guidance from health and wellbeing coaches, and benefit from a supportive community environment. Over 90% of players experience weight loss and improved fitness through the programme.

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation was set up 20 years ago with a vision to change lives through the power of sport. Rooted in the heart of local communities, the Foundation creates opportunities for individuals to aim high and reach their full potential. Through a diverse range of health-focused initiatives, we strive to make a meaningful and lasting impact on those who need our support the most.

Ben Berry, Wellbeing and Inclusion Manager here at Leeds Rhinos Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying: “We’re incredibly excited to be launching the MAN v FAT Rugby programme here in Leeds. At Leeds Rhinos Foundation, we believe in changing lives through the power of sport, and this initiative is a fantastic way to support men in our community to take positive steps towards improving their health and wellbeing.

“By combining the spirit of rugby league with guidance and a strong sense of camaraderie, we’re confident this programme will make a real difference. It’s about more than just losing weight – it’s about building confidence, resilience, and a healthier future together.”

The Leeds club will join a growing network of MAN v FAT Rugby clubs across the UK, including recent launches in Bristol, Nottingham, Cheltenham, and Leicester. These programmes have already seen significant success, with participants collectively losing substantial weight and reporting improved mental health and social connections.

Karl White, from MAN v FAT HQ, added: “We are looking forward to bringing a MAN v FAT Rugby Club to the city of Leeds. For us to be able to work in partnership with Leeds Rhinos Foundation made complete sense as they deliver some fantastic programmes in the local community and we want to ensure as many men know about MAN v FAT to enable them to improve their health.

“An added extra to the partnership is the fact that the club will be operating from the Leeds Rhinos training ground, I am sure this will entice a few more guys to dust off their boots and get involved.”

Men aged 18 and over with a BMI of 27.5 or higher who are interested in joining the Leeds MAN v FAT Rugby club can find more information and register on the MAN v FAT Rugby website.

The programme offers an inclusive environment, regardless of prior rugby experience, and focuses on fostering sustainable lifestyle changes through physical activity and team support.
