Five Delicious Hummus Recipes!

Hummus is a staple food from the Mediterranean and middle east. And like all staple foods it has a history. Back in the day when people had to travel long distances on foot or animal they had to carry their food with them. It needed to be lightweight, nutrient dense and easy to make….dried chick peas, otherwise known as garbanzo beans fit the bill. When travelers arrived to their destination they could soak the dried chick peas in water, mash with olive oil, add a little lemon juice and sea salt and they had a protein packed meal loaded with energy producing healthy fats! A high protein food source in minutes, can’t beat that. So without further adieu here are Five Delicious Hummus Recipes!

Hummus: A Protein Packed Condiment!

There are 21 grams of protein in one can of chick peas (garbanzo beans). That is as much protein as a large chicken breast, amazingly high in protein for a plant based food. Add in the brain boosting Omega 9 fats from good quality extra virgin olive oil and you have yourself an amazingly healthful snack/appetizer.

What You’ll Need to Make Hummus:

To make hummus you’ll need aĀ food processor. Ā AĀ mini food processor (only $39!) works great too. Honestly, I use it more than my full size one. This is my favorite sea salt.Ā
