Fa-BOO-lous Halloween Mini Pizzas

Yep, fa-BOO-lous. Erik and I had so much fun making this eek-worthy Halloween pizzas recipe, from using cookie cutters to cut out mini pizza crusts, to spooning teeny-tiny amounts of marinara onto each pizza, sprinkling the cheese, and topping with tiny black olive spider body parts! This appetizer is the Halloween-themed pizza you’ve been looking for—and so adorable served with mummy dogs and more. Happy Halloween!

The ingredients for this Halloween pizza recipe laid out, including black olives, pizza crust, pizza sauce, and shredded mozzarella cheese

Spider Pizza Ingredients

  • Pizza crust: I used a pre-baked pizza crust to save on time, and made sure it was thin crust for easier cutting.
  • Pizza sauce: you can use homemade or store-bought to speed things up.
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese: you can swap this with whatever shredded cheese you like on your pizzas.
  • Black olives: I used whole olives for the spider bodies and sliced olives (that I sliced even thinner) for the legs. Eeek!

How to Make Halloween Pizza

This Halloween pizza recipe is so fun to make and takes a little bit of time. It’s almost like an edible arts and crafts Halloween project. 😉

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Using a 2 1/4-inch cookie cutter, slice round mini pizza crusts out of a pre-baked pizza crust.
  2. Place crusts evenly spaced apart on a lined baking sheet. Spread marinara sauce over each crust and top with mozzarella cheese.

  1. Bake for 8 minutes. While it’s baking, slice 8 whole olives into halves—these will be the bodies. Cut sliced olives thinner—these are the legs.
  2. Remove baked mini pizzas from the oven and carefully arrange spider bodies and legs atop the pizzas, pressing into the cheese. Caution: it’s hot!

Halloween Pizza Ideas

Loving this Halloween pizza food? Here are a few variations that also hauntingly qualify as Halloween shaped pizza for your next spooky party!

  • Eyeball Halloween Pizza: instead of black olives, slice a mozzarella pearl in half and place on top of the marinara. Carve a divot into the pearl and place a sliced green olive inside. After baking, squeeze sriracha into the hole in the olive. Spooky eyeball pizza!
  • Sweet Halloween Party Pizzas: skip the baking and swap the marinara for chocolate hazelnut spread. Skip the cheese and olives, sub with Halloween sprinkles, cute googly eyes, and mini marshmallows.
  • Spider Pizza Dip: Make this pizza dip instead and top with as many black olive spiders (as instructed in this recipe) as you can fit on the dip!

Spider Pizza Tips

  • These Halloween-themed pizzas are so tiny that I found it helpful to use a scissor and trim the long cheese shreds in thirds for neater sprinkling.
  • You can add the olives before baking but keep in mind that the spider parts will spread. The upside is, you can be less careful when moving the pizzas because they’ll be adhered to the melted cheese.
  • It’ll be easier to get the olives to stay if you press them into the pizzas while they’re hot; just be super careful to avoid burns!
  • Cookie Cutters – I used the 2 ¼-inch size in this set. Make sure to press down and turn the cutter back and forth to create a clean cut in the pizza crust.
  • Baking Sheet
  • Whole Small Black Olives & Sliced Black Olives: I found that pre-sliced black olives were too thick for believable spider legs, so I sliced them thinner for more stable and believable legs.

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • For the spider bodies: Cut 8 whole olives into halves.

  • For the spider legs: If needed, slice the sliced olives thinner for ganglier spider legs. Then, cut sliced olives in half to form two C-shaped legs. Set aside.

  • Make the mini pizzas: Using a 2 ¼-inch cookie cutter, cut as many round mini pizza crusts as you can from the pre-baked crust—this is going to take some arm muscles! Line mini crusts on baking sheet, spaced apart.
  • Spoon about ½ teaspoon pizza sauce onto each crust, spreading into an even layer in the center. Sprinkle about 2 teaspoons of cheese onto each pizza.

  • Bake for 7-9 minutes, until golden brown at edges and cheese is fully melted.

  • Add the spiders: Cool for 1 minute. While the pizza is hot, carefully and quickly press olive “bodies” in the center of each pizza. Arrange and press “legs” along the sides of each body to make a spider.*
