Celebrate fall with a pitcher of apple cider sangria!

Fall is worth celebrating. The colorful leaves! Sweaters and boots! Apple picking! So let’s kick it off with some Apple Cider Sangria

  • I love this sangria because it’s got cozy fall flavor from the cider and cinnamon, but it’s also light and refreshing like White Sangria. (My Apple Cider Margarita balances cozy and crisp flavors too!)
  • Sangria is one of the easiest cocktails to make, with a short list of ingredients and minimal prep. And yet it always impresses! (You’ll also love this Red Sangria Recipe.)
  • This apple cider sangria is also versatile. I’ll make a pitcher for Ben and me to enjoy with dinner for a few days, but it also serves a crowd. Whether it’s a Halloween party, fall brunch, or Thanksgiving dinner, apple sangria is the move!

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card below, but here are some notes to keep in mind.

  • Dry White Wine. Light, crisp Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio work beautifully. Don’t use a sweet wine in this sangria—that’s what the apple cider is for!
  • Apple Cider. As with my Apple Cider Cocktail, you’ll want to use fresh apple cider, the kind that’s sold refrigerated. Or make your own Apple Cider. (It’s easier than you think!)
  • Cinnamon Whiskey. This adds a cozy, spicy kick. Brandy works too!
  • Cinnamon Sticks. These infuse the sangria with warm flavor as the ingredients mix and mingle.
  • Apples & Pears. Choose firm, sweet-crisp varieties like Honeycrisp apples and Bartlett pears. You don’t want mushy fruit in your pitcher of sangria!
  • Orange. The best citrus fruit for a cozy fall sangria recipe! It adds some acidity without puckery tartness.
  • Club Soda and Ice. Pour the apple cider sangria over ice and if you’d like, top off with club soda for a fizzy finish.

How to Make Apple Cider Sangria

Combine. Stir the wine, cider, whiskey, cinnamon sticks, apples, pears, and orange slices in a large pitcher.

Chill. Cover (if your pitcher doesn’t have a lid, just use plastic wrap) and chill for 4 hours or up to 48 hours. As the sangria chills, the flavors will develop and deepen.

Serve. Pour over ice and add a splash of club soda if you’d like. Garnish with fruit and ENJOY!

Recipe Variations

  • Swap the Whiskey for Rum. Use spiced rum. (Rum lovers, try my Rum Punch too!)
  • Add Cranberries. This is an awesome way to transition this apple cider sangria to the holiday season!
  • Infuse Your Own Cinnamon Whiskey. Combine the whiskey with a cinnamon stick in a jar and let it sit on the counter at room temperature overnight.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle dry white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • ½ cup cinnamon whiskey; you can also use brandy
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 sweet-crisp apples such as Honeycrisp or Fuji, diced
  • 2 pears such as Bartlett, diced
  • 1 small orange thinly sliced and each sliced halved into half moons
  • Club soda optional for serving
  • Ice

Instructions

  • In a large pitcher, combine the wine, cider, whiskey, cinnamon sticks, apples, pears, and orange slices. Stir very thoroughly to combine.
A hand pours wine into a pitcher with chopped apples, oranges, and cinnamon sticks. Apples and cinnamon are nearby.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours, or up to 48 hours.
  • Serve over ice with a splash of club soda as desired. Garnish each glass with some of the fruit from the pitcher.

Notes

TO STORE: Store apple cider sangria in a covered pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours. After the first 24 hours, I like to remove the oranges to keep the sangria from getting bitter.
