La Cour d’Honneur for Heavenly Authentic French Food in Avignon

Restaurant La Cour d’Honneur in the heart of Avignon offers a unique mix of ambiance and flavors. The building, dating from the 14th century is classified as a historical monument, so there are plenty of era frescoes adorning the walls to engage with you. It was redesigned by interior designer Christina Maurey, which brings an air of modernity to the place. The outside courtyard (and its reputation) is what brought us in.

La Cour d’Honneur: A Review

We dined here here on our final night in Avignon, which was a bit emotional for us. While we still had four days left in France after leaving Avignon, we were heading to the Alpes, so we were leaving Provence. In other words, it would be our last Provence dining experience and we didn’t want any of it to end. La Cour d’Honneur was a great choice and did not disappoint.

They offer a starter, main course and dessert for 38€ or you an opt for just a starter and main course for 32€. We kicked things off with the Duck Foie Gras with autumn chutney and toast. My taste (post Covid) was finally starting to come back and every flavor . . . every taste was important. Although I couldn’t taste the layers as I have in the past, some of the flavors DID pop and brought back memories.

Other appetizer options include Tuna Tataki with Sesame Seeds, Salmon Graviax, Blinis and Dill Cream, Eggplant Confit with Miso, Foccacia, Stracciatella and Confit Tomatoes and Fresh Oysters. We also ordered their Buffalo Burrata with Tomatoes and Basil and it was perfectly seasoned. YUM!

Next came our main courses. Sure, they had lighter seafood options like Seabream with Tatatouille, Scallops with Veggies and Coriander and Seabass with Palenta and Confit Tomatoes, but we had ordered a Châteauneuf-du-Pape, so we went with dishes more suitable for pairing. Below, the Lamb Shank Confit with Sweet Potatoes Mousseline and Vegetable Spaghetti and the Beef Fillet with a Mushroom Cream Sauce and veggies.

For desserts, they offer Cheese Boards, Brioche Perdue with Vanilla Ice Cream, Entremet with two chocolates, Comte Affinated with Camembert and Goat Cheese, Cheesecake, and assorted desserts to name a few. We went for a dessert wine and cappuccino.
