Phuket may be an island, but it’s Thailand’s largest at almost 550 sq km, and offers numerous different beaches and areas.

As prices vary depending on dates, I’ve included links so you can check out more reviews, photos, availability and prices for your dates and room type and book your stay. Make sure you book well in advance if you plan to visit in peak season (Dec – Feb) as many of the best hotels in Phuket do get fully booked.
The Best Luxury Resorts in Patong
Patong is the most popular beach in Phuket. The 3km (2-mile) beach has a vibrant, bustling vibe, with watersports and beachside vendors, while the road running alongside it is packed with bars and restaurants. It’s also just a short stroll from the famous Bangla Road (the nightlife hub of Phuket).
Amari Phuket

Located on the southern end of Patong Beach and built on a hill, Amari offers both direct beach access and sweeping ocean views.
It’s popular among couples who want to stay close to all the action while still enjoying moments of relaxation, thanks to the resort’s on-site spa, which includes a steam room, mud bath, sauna, and outdoor jacuzzi.
All suites have gorgeous ocean views, so each morning begins with a reminder that you’re in paradise. Then in the evenings, you can watch the sunset directly from your balcony or the resort’s beach bar, cocktail in hand.
Courtyard by Marriott Phuket

This huge 5-star resort sits right in the heart of Patong Beach and is a favorite among families, thanks to its multiple pools and various kids’ play areas, including waterslides.
From the Courtyard, it’s very easy to get around Patong on foot, and you have everything you need within walking distance, including a shopping mall! Therefore, it’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to spend most of their holiday in Phuket’s most popular beach town.
The sleek and modern suites have private balconies (or direct pool access). Family rooms are also available, with two bedrooms and a living room.
Diamond Cliff Resort

Diamond Cliff Resort is perfectly positioned on the northern tip of Patong Beach. It’s far quieter than resorts in the central area, yet still within walking distance.
The cliffside setting further enhances the resort’s peaceful, secluded ambience, as it spans 20 acres of beautiful gardens. In addition to direct beach access, the resort has 2 swimming pools (with stunning views), 4 restaurants, and 4 bars.
The spacious suites have ocean views and amenities such as spa baths, balconies, and private pools.
The Best Luxury Resorts Near Patong
While Patong is loud and lively, there are some lavish 5-star beach resorts on the outskirts of town that offer a more peaceful, refined vibe than the main beach strip and the infamous Bangla Road, yet they are just a short walk or drive from all the action!
Rosewood Phuket

This lavish resort sits on Tri Trang Beach, a much quieter alternative to Patong Beach, yet still closeby (just 2km away). Rosewood has a serene, romantic vibe with stunning villas and VIP hospitality.
The pool villas are surrounded by lush greenery, giving a very private feel, so you can sunbathe on your terrace or chill in your private pool in complete seclusion. The villas have every amenity you could think of, including a Nespresso coffee machine, which is a huge perk for coffee lovers like me!
The customer service here is also top quality. From 24-hour room service to twice daily housekeeping and even a dedicated butler, expect to be treated like royalty here.
Oceanfront Beach Resort

Located 2.5km (1.5 miles) north of Patong centre, the 5-star Oceanfront Beach Resort feels like its own mini holiday village. With a gorgeous infinity pool, direct beachfront access, and a top-rated daily breakfast, it’s an idyllic place to unwind and rest between partying and island exploration.
The vibe is so relaxing, and the staff are incredibly attentive, so if your itinerary allows, spend at least one full day just enjoying the resort’s facilities. If you can pull yourself away from the beach and pool, check out the fitness centre, squash court, and snooker room!
And when you are ready to explore, there’s a complimentary daily shuttle to and from Patong centre.
The Best Luxury Resorts in Kata and Karon
Kata and Karon are also lively spots, but without the hectic atmosphere of Patong, ideal for families and couples. The following 5-star hotels are directly on the beach and in quieter spots, allowing you to enjoy these fun tourist towns while having your own luxurious haven to retreat to.
The Katathani

Katathani is a HUGE beachfront hotel, spanning almost the entire area of Kata Noi, Kata’s little sister. Despite being right next to the main Kata beach, Kata Noi is generally quieter and has a more upscale, exclusive vibe.
Kata Noi is one of the most beautiful beaches in Phuket, with pure white sand and the iconic turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea. Head down to the beach first thing in the morning when it’s almost empty, and you’ll experience its true beauty.
The accommodation is just as stunning as the location, offering light, airy, modern suites with pool or sea views.
And then there’s the resort facilities. Katathani has a 6 pools, 6 restaurants & even a mini waterpark. The setup is so incredible that you will have to drag yourself out of Kata Noi to experience the rest of the island!
If you’re not traveling with children and prefer more seclusion there’s also The Shore at Katathani – the resort’s adults only section boasting luxurious rooms with private pools and stunning views over the bay.
Centara Grand Beach Resort

Centara sits right on the Northern tip of Karon beach. This part of the beach is special for two reasons. Firstly, unlike the majority of Karon Beach, the northern tip is not directly on the main road. Secondly, as Karon beach is so long (4km/2.5 miles), most tourists don’t venture this far up. The result? A peaceful, semi-secluded feeling on one of Phuket’s most popular beaches.
And when I say Centara is a beachfront hotel, it literally couldn’t be any closer to the beach if it tried. The palm tree-lined pool sprawls onto the sand, so you’ll be sunbathing both beachfront and poolside. It also has a super cute beachfront bar, perfect for watching the sunset.
All the suites have balconies, and most have ocean views. You can also upgrade to the spa suite, which features a hot tub on the balcony, or to the pool suite, which offers a private plunge pool.
The Best Luxury Resorts in Naiharn & Rawai
Located at the southern tip of Phuket, Naiharn and Rawai offer a great base for island hopping and exploring lesser known beaches. These beachfront resorts blend 5-star hospitality with beautiful ocean surroundings and luxury suites.
The Nai Harn

The Nai Harn stands out as the most luxurious resort in the area, as it’s the only hotel to offer direct beach access to the incredible Nai Harn beach.
Almost every suite boasts unbeatable ocean views, with a spacious balcony, and many rooms have huge four-poster daybeds!
Along with an epic location, The Nai Harn’s fine dining restaurant and trendy rooftop bar really make the experience here unforgettable.
The breakfast buffet at The Nai Harn is one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had in the world. It includes unlimited barista coffee, a cheese room, top-quality pastries, and fresh bread.
And make sure you check out the rooftop bar. With expansive views, live music, and mouthwatering cocktails, it’s the ultimate sunset experience!
The Vijitt Resort

The Vijitt offers a tranquil retreat with direct beach access, a beachfront pool, and expansive, lush gardens for maximum relaxation.
But it’s the accommodation that makes this 5-star hotel so spectacular. Here, you’ll stay in a cute, standalone villa that blends traditional Thai decor with modern luxury.
The villas have private terraces with outdoor rain showers and spa baths. Many also have private pools with total seclusion, thanks to the tall greenery and hillside setting.
Along with two restaurants and a beach bar, there are plenty of resort activities on offer, including Muay Thai classes, yoga sessions, and kayaking.
The Best Luxury Resorts in Kamala and Surin Beach
Kamala and Surin beach offer a laid-back beach destination vibe, with luxury accommodation right on the beach. Plus, it’s located between Patong and Bang Tao, so there are two lively areas just a short drive away.
The Surin Phuket

The Surin consists of over 100 cottages and villas nestled among dense tropical foliage, creating a secluded ambiance for each one. The resort feels like a small luxurious village, where even the short stroll from your cottage to the beach is dreamy and memorable.
However, it’s the private beach that makes this hotel truly special. The gorgeous Pansea Beach sits just north of Surin Beach and is accessible only to the resort’s guests. It gives The Surin an incredibly exclusive feel and a paradise-island vibe.
The Surin also knows how to make their guests feel extra special. Expect many thoughtful complimentary touches, including a welcome drink and use of the resort’s watersports.

InterContinental Phuket Resort

InterContinental sits at the north end of Kamala beach, with direct beach access and a stylish, beach-facing pool area, surrounded by palm trees and the ocean breeze.
The rooms are designed in a sleek, modern style, with balconies, living areas, and spacious spa bathrooms. For families or couples travelling in style, they also offer a 2-bedroom villa with a private pool!
The Best Luxury Resorts in Bang Tao/Laguna
Bang Tao is Phuket’s most modern, western-style area, popular with families seeking home comforts. Along with an 8 km (5-mile) beach, there’s a picturesque laguna with parks, walking trails, and pristine green spaces to relax in and enjoy around the lakes.
Banyan Tree Phuket

Spanning 89 acres (36 hectares) across the laguna is Banyan Tree, which offers both beachfront and lakeside accommodation.
The facilities at this 5-star resort are endless, with 5 restaurants, multiple pools, an award-winning spa, and a golf course! The resort also offers the unique opportunity to explore the private lagoon by kayak.
All accommodation options are private pool villas, giving you your own secluded slice of this exclusive paradise.
Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket

Another 5-star resort in the Laguna complex is Dusit Thani, with expansive green grounds and direct beach access.
The resort offers a wide range of in-house activities, including spa treatments, yoga sessions, Muay Thai classes, and cooking classes. Therefore, it’s a fantastic alternative for solo travelers who want to enjoy their Phuket trip in style, with endless activities both in and out of the hotel.
For your stylish suite, choose between sea or lagoon views, or upgrade to a beachfront suite or pool villa.
Anantara Layan Phuket Resort

Anantara is a beachfront resort in the up-and-coming area of Layan, north of Bang Tao beach. Anantara offers a mix of seclusion, luxury, and nature, with lavish pool villas spread throughout the hillside resort and hidden among the palm trees.
On site, there are many leisure facilities, including a fitness centre with state-of-the-art equipment, a tennis court, and various watersports, such as canoeing, windsurfing, and snorkeling.
Anantara is also one of the only pet-friendly 5-star resorts in Phuket. So if you’re traveling with your furry friend in tow, they can also enjoy Anantara’s VIP treatment, including an in-room pet dining menu!
The Best Luxury Resorts in Mai Khao
In the north of the island, Mai Khao is among the least-developed tourist destinations in Phuket. Here you’ll find a string of luxury beach resorts, nestled among jungle and lush green fields yet conveniently close to the airport.
Renaissance Resort & Spa

Renaissance in Mai Khao has everything you would expect from a 5-star resort on a tropical beach. From a beach club to a beachfront pool and a world-class spa, you can enjoy many lazy days here, recharging from all the sightseeing.
There’s a wide range of rooms available, but I recommend the newly renovated pool villa, which features a private plunge pool and complimentary wine/champagne.
JW Marriott

JW Marriott in Mai Khao is one of Phuket’s most impressive Marriott hotels, with direct access to Mai Khao Beach, one of the island’s most beautiful, unspoiled beaches. Here you can enjoy long sunset beach walks followed by fine dining at one of the resort’s many restaurants.
It’s an excellent option for families, as it’s a short 20-minute drive from the airport and is close to attractions like Splash Jungle (a waterpark). The resort also has a children’s swimming pool, a kids’ club, and even a turtle sanctuary.
Plus, JW Marriott is right by Mai Khao Plaza, a family-friendly tourist village with everything you need, from restaurants to convenience stores.
The Best Luxury Resorts in Phuket Town
No guide to the best resorts in Phuket would be complete without a mention of Phuket Town. The city is the cultural hub of Phuket, with colourful historic streets, vibrant street markets, and some lovely shrines and temples.
Phuket town is very walkable, and it’s also the transport hub of the island, allowing you to easily get around the rest of Phuket (and beyond).
Note that Phuket Town does not have a beach but there are some close by, such as Siray Bay. This area is perfect for anyone who wants to be close to Phuket’s cultural hub while staying along the coast.
The Westin Siray Bay Resort

The 5-star Westin Siray Bay Resort is located on Ko Sire, just a 10-minute drive from Phuket Old Town. The vibe here is calm and authentic, as it’s a part of Phuket that few tourists discover.
As a 5-star resort and spa, you’ll find a range of wellness and fitness facilities, including yoga, volleyball, and water sports. Built on a cliff, there are 3 infinity pools throughout the resort, all of which boast incredible ocean views. Some of the suites also have infinity-style private pools!
The Best Resorts in Phuket with Private Beaches
All Phuket’s 5-star resorts feel luxurious, but some really shine: those with private beaches, private pool villas, and in secluded bays where you can escape the crowds.
Here’s my pick of the best hotels in Phuket with a private beach:
Cape Panwa Hotel, Panwa

Hidden in a coconut plantation at the cape of Panwa is a peaceful, utterly beautiful 5-star resort. While the architecture is traditional Thai style, the facilities, amenities, and hospitality are nothing short of lavish.
Cape Panwa sits on a pristine private beach with expansive grounds, including garden trails, a private pier, and even a mini train that takes you from the top to the bottom of the resort.
I spent a night in the corner suite with an outdoor hot tub (which was awesome), but the private pool villas also looked amazing.
Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach

Did you know it’s possible to stay at a private beach resort just a few kilometres from Patong?
Aside from a beach reserved only for the hotel guests, Marriott on Merlin Beach has endless things to keep you and your whole family entertained. The kids will love the beachfront playground and mini water park, while adults can float around the interlinked pool areas that connect the resort.
Amatara Welleisure Resort, Panwa

Phuket isn’t short of wellness resorts, but not many have their own private beach like Amatara. Firstly, located at the cape of Panwa, the location is peaceful and nature-rich, just what you want from a wellness retreat.
Amatara’s accommodation is designed with privacy and luxury in mind, featuring standalone villas completely secluded from one another, thanks to its hilltop setting.
Amatara offers both set wellness retreats and a build-your-own retreat option, with a wide selection of spa treatments, wellness activities, and holistic offerings to choose from.
AmanPuri

Amanpuri is one of Phuket’s most exclusive resorts, set on Surin’s serene peninsula. Here, you’ll find a stunning private beach and gorgeous pool villas designed in traditional Thai style.
Amanpuri is one of the best resorts in Phuket for anyone who wants to trulyunwind. Along with the resorts’ unmatched sense of privacy and serenity, you can indulge in spa treatments, relax in the steam room and infrared saunas, and find your zen through complimentary yoga classes.
It’s also popular among large families and groups, as the villages are enormous, with some having up to 6 bedrooms!
Trisara Villas & Residences Phuket

The Trisara luxury resort is situated by Banana Beach, just north of Bang Tao. With a white-sand private beach, a holistic wellness center, and fine-dining restaurants, every moment of your stay here will feel nothing short of 5-star.
Each villa at Trisara features a private pool, a large terrace, and exceptional privacy, making it ideal for couples or families seeking seclusion. There are also many complimentary touches included in your stay, such as airport transfers and watersports.
Thavorn Beach Village

Thavorn Beach Village sits on a private stretch of sand at Nakalay Beach, halfway between Patong and Kamala. Aside from the beach, one of the highlights of Thavorn is its HUGE lagoon-style pool, which you can spend hours floating in.
Meanwhile, the resort’s tropical‑garden setting makes it feel more like a peaceful village than a hotel. Plus, the Thai‑style cottages and villas are incredibly picturesque and Instagrammable.
The Naka

The Naka’s combination of private pool villas and exclusive beach setting makes it one of the most lavish and chic resorts on the island.
If you want the best experience, opt for the pool villa with beach access, offering a private infinity-style pool and direct access to the sea!
While the resort feels secluded, you’re close to some of the best areas in Phuket. The Naka is just 10 minutes from Patong and 20 minutes from Phuket town.
BONUS – The Best Beach Resorts Near Phuket

While Phuket has what feels like an endless array of 5-star resorts, it’s actually a whole province with 32 smaller islands – some of which you can even stay on!
There’s plenty of island hopping day trips to take but if you’re dreaming of a private island escape you can find that just a short boat ride away from the main island at resorts like The Naka Island, Barcelo Coconut Island and Villa Escape Busari.
There are also many nearby destinations with a totally different vibe, and as Phuket international airport (HKT) is located at the north of the island, places like Phang Nga and Khao Lak are easily reachable within just a few hours or less.
So, if you’re looking to get off the beaten track then why not book a few days at one of these beach resorts near Phuket as part of your trip?
Here’s some of the best resorts beyond Phuket:
Santhiya, Koh Yao Yai

Santhiya is the ultimate hidden gem. Located on Koh Yao Yai, an island just a 20-minute boat journey from Phuket, it’s like stepping into a Thai fairytale.
Firstly, the resort’s design is breathtaking. As you approach the pier, you’ll see wooden pool villas running along the cliffside from the beach all the way up to the hill. This is your first glimpse of the traditional Thai architecture that the ENTIRE resort is built from.
The architecture is paired with various Thai customs, such as live Thai music, dancing, and even wood carving. And the suites and villas have the most magical views of the Andaman Sea!
A stay at Santhiya doesn’t just immerse you in Thai culture, but it transports you back to what Thailand was like centuries ago.
Aleenta Phuket, Phang Nga

Discovering Aleenta feels like uncovering a hidden paradise. Nestled on the long, often-empty Natai Beach in Phang Nga, just north of Phuket, the resort offers a serene and secluded escape.
The ocean‑view villas are breathtaking, with floor-to-ceiling windows, large private pools, and stylish outdoor terraces. Meanwhile, the resort offers its own huge infinity pool right on the beach, along with a spa and beachfront restaurant/bar.
Mai Khao Lak Beach Resort & Spa, Khao Lak

Khao Lak is a beach destination in Phang Nga, the next-door province of Phuket. It’s just a 2-hour drive, but the landscapes couldn’t be any more different. As Khao Lak (and most of Phang Nga) is mostly untouched and undeveloped, entering Khao Lak is like entering the dense Thai jungle.
Yet amidst the rainforests and lush green hills, you’ll find a sprinkle of magnificent 5-star resorts. Mai Khaolak is my favourite, as it offers both family-friendly and adults-only areas, catering to whatever vibe you’re after.
There are multiple swimming pools running through the resort, an adults-only rooftop panoramic bar, a coffee shop, and so much more! It also makes a great base to take a day trip to the amazing Khao Sok National Park.
Conclusion

As you can there’s no shortage of incredible 5 star resorts in Phuket, but before you go, I’ve got a final insider tip for you to save money on your holiday.
During peak season (Dec – Feb) when the weather is at it’s best, Phuket gets incredibly crowded, so most resorts raise their prices to meet demand.
However, during low season, when the island is much quieter, many of Phuket’s 5-star resorts run special offers. This presents an awesome opportunity to experience luxury living for a fraction of the high-season price!
The catch? be prepared for a bit of rain. Read more here about what to expect when you visit Thailand during rainy season.
