Patong is the most popular beach in Phuket. The 3km (2-mile) beach has a vibrant, bustling vibe, with watersports and beachside vendors, while the road running alongside it is packed with bars and restaurants. It’s also just a short stroll from the famous Bangla Road (the nightlife hub of Phuket).
Amari Phuket
Located on the southern end of Patong Beach and built on a hill, Amari offers both direct beach access and sweeping ocean views.
It’s popular among couples who want to stay close to all the action while still enjoying moments of relaxation, thanks to the resort’s on-site spa, which includes a steam room, mud bath, sauna, and outdoor jacuzzi.

Diamond Cliff Resort
Diamond Cliff Resort is perfectly positioned on the northern tip of Patong Beach. It’s far quieter than resorts in the central area, yet still within walking distance.
The cliffside setting further enhances the resort’s peaceful, secluded ambience, as it spans 20 acres of beautiful gardens. In addition to direct beach access, the resort has 2 swimming pools (with stunning views), 4 restaurants, and 4 bars.

While Patong is loud and lively, there are some lavish 5-star beach resorts on the outskirts of town that offer a more peaceful, refined vibe than the main beach strip and the infamous Bangla Road, yet they are just a short walk or drive from all the action!
Rosewood Phuket
This lavish resort sits on Tri Trang Beach, a much quieter alternative to Patong Beach, yet still closeby (just 2km away). Rosewood has a serene, romantic vibe with stunning villas and VIP hospitality.
The pool villas are surrounded by lush greenery, giving a very private feel, so you can sunbathe on your terrace or chill in your private pool in complete seclusion. The villas have every amenity you could think of, including a Nespresso coffee machine, which is a huge perk for coffee lovers like me!

Located 2.5km (1.5 miles) north of Patong centre, the 5-star Oceanfront Beach Resort feels like its own mini holiday village. With a gorgeous infinity pool, direct beachfront access, and a top-rated daily breakfast, it’s an idyllic place to unwind and rest between partying and island exploration.
The vibe is so relaxing, and the staff are incredibly attentive, so if your itinerary allows, spend at least one full day just enjoying the resort’s facilities. If you can pull yourself away from the beach and pool, check out the fitness centre, squash court, and snooker room!
And when you are ready to explore, there’s a complimentary daily shuttle to and from Patong centre.

Katathani is a HUGE beachfront hotel, spanning almost the entire area of Kata Noi, Kata’s little sister. Despite being right next to the main Kata beach, Kata Noi is generally quieter and has a more upscale, exclusive vibe.
Kata Noi is one of the most beautiful beaches in Phuket, with pure white sand and the iconic turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea. Head down to the beach first thing in the morning when it’s almost empty, and you’ll experience its true beauty.
The accommodation is just as stunning as the location, offering light, airy, modern suites with pool or sea views.
And then there’s the resort facilities. Katathani has a 6 pools, 6 restaurants & even a mini waterpark.The setup is so incredible that you will have to drag yourself out of Kata Noi to experience the rest of the island!
If you’re not traveling with children and prefer more seclusion there’s also The Shore at Katathani – the resort’s adults only section boasting luxurious rooms with private pools and stunning views over the bay.
Centara Grand Beach Resort
Centara sits right on the Northern tip of Karon beach. This part of the beach is special for two reasons. Firstly, unlike the majority of Karon Beach, the northern tip is not directly on the main road. Secondly, as Karon beach is so long (4km/2.5 miles), most tourists don’t venture this far up. The result? A peaceful, semi-secluded feeling on one of Phuket’s most popular beaches.
And when I say Centara is a beachfront hotel, it literally couldn’t be any closer to the beach if it tried. The palm tree-lined pool sprawls onto the sand, so you’ll be sunbathing both beachfront and poolside. It also has a super cute beachfront bar, perfect for watching the sunset.
All the suites have balconies, and most have ocean views. You can also upgrade to the spa suite, which features a hot tub on the balcony, or to the pool suite, which offers a private plunge pool.

Banyan Tree Phuket
Spanning 89 acres (36 hectares) across the laguna is Banyan Tree, which offers both beachfront and lakeside accommodation.

In the north of the island, Mai Khao is among the least-developed tourist destinations in Phuket. Here you’ll find a string of luxury beach resorts, nestled among jungle and lush green fields yet conveniently close to the airport.
Renaissance Resort & Spa
Renaissance in Mai Khao has everything you would expect from a 5-star resort on a tropical beach. From a beach club to a beachfront pool and a world-class spa, you can enjoy many lazy days here, recharging from all the sightseeing.
There’s a wide range of rooms available, but I recommend the newly renovated pool villa, which features a private plunge pool and complimentary wine/champagne.
JW Marriott
JW Marriott in Mai Khao is one of Phuket’s most impressive Marriott hotels, with direct access to Mai Khao Beach, one of the island’s most beautiful, unspoiled beaches. Here you can enjoy long sunset beach walks followed by fine dining at one of the resort’s many restaurants.
It’s an excellent option for families, as it’s a short 20-minute drive from the airport and is close to attractions like Splash Jungle (a waterpark). The resort also has a children’s swimming pool, a kids’ club, and even a turtle sanctuary.
Plus, JW Marriott is right by Mai Khao Plaza, a family-friendly tourist village with everything you need, from restaurants to convenience stores.

No guide to the best resorts in Phuket would be complete without a mention of Phuket Town. The city is the cultural hub of Phuket, with colourful historic streets, vibrant street markets, and some lovely shrines and temples.
Phuket town is very walkable, and it’s also the transport hub of the island, allowing you to easily get around the rest of Phuket (and beyond).
Note that Phuket Town does not have a beach but there are some close by, such as Siray Bay. This area is perfect for anyone who wants to be close to Phuket’s cultural hub while staying along the coast.
The Westin Siray Bay Resort
The 5-star Westin Siray Bay Resort is located on Ko Sire, just a 10-minute drive from Phuket Old Town. The vibe here is calm and authentic, as it’s a part of Phuket that few tourists discover.

I spent a night in the corner suite with an outdoor hot tub (which was awesome), but the private pool villas also looked amazing.

There’s plenty of island hopping day trips to take but if you’re dreaming of a private island escape you can find that just a short boat ride away from the main island at resorts like The Naka Island, Barcelo Coconut Island and Villa Escape Busari.
There are also many nearby destinations with a totally different vibe, and as Phuket international airport (HKT) is located at the north of the island, places like Phang Nga and Khao Lak are easily reachable within just a few hours or less.

Firstly, the resort’s design is breathtaking. As you approach the pier, you’ll see wooden pool villas running along the cliffside from the beach all the way up to the hill. This is your first glimpse of the traditional Thai architecture that the ENTIRE resort is built from.
The architecture is paired with various Thai customs, such as live Thai music, dancing, and even wood carving. And the suites and villas have the most magical views of the Andaman Sea!

Aleenta Phuket, Phang Nga
Discovering Aleenta feels like uncovering a hidden paradise. Nestled on the long, often-empty Natai Beach in Phang Nga, just north of Phuket, the resort offers a serene and secluded escape.

Mai Khao Lak Beach Resort & Spa, Khao Lak
Khao Lak is a beach destination in Phang Nga, the next-door province of Phuket. It’s just a 2-hour drive, but the landscapes couldn’t be any more different. As Khao Lak (and most of Phang Nga) is mostly untouched and undeveloped, entering Khao Lak is like entering the dense Thai jungle.
Yet amidst the rainforests and lush green hills, you’ll find a sprinkle of magnificent 5-star resorts. Mai Khaolak is my favourite, as it offers both family-friendly and adults-only areas, catering to whatever vibe you’re after.
There are multiple swimming pools running through the resort, an adults-only rooftop panoramic bar, a coffee shop, and so much more! It also makes a great base to take a day trip to the amazing Khao Sok National Park.
