A Proposal at the End of the World

When plans change at the end of the world

The original plan had been to propose at Iguazu Falls, one of the most famous Brazil and Argentina travel destinations. Then, two weeks before the trip, everything changed.

“I had originally planned on proposing when we were going to be visiting Iguazu Falls, but because I couldn’t get the Yellow Fever vaccine thanks to my immunodeficiency, I had to change plans. We found out I couldn’t get the vaccine about 2 weeks before we flew out and I was scrambling about what to do – I genuinely considered risking getting Yellow Fever to make it to Iguazu, but thankfully Wendy made me realise how stupid that was.”

So a new plan came together. “I was panicking at this point and after chatting to some friends who had also visited Ushuaia, I decided that the End of the World would be the spot.” And once they arrived, it felt right straight away. “It had to be somewhere memorable, and as soon as we landed in Ushuaia, with the giant mountains and gorgeous backdrop, I knew this was the right place after all.”

With the help of the Dragon Trip team, things started to fall into place on their guided group tour. “I knew I would have to try and get the help of the team when we got there and thankfully, Servet and Majo were more than ready to help.” Because while the setting was dramatic, the real benefit was everything else being taken care of on an organised group trip. “There is absolutely no way I could have organised getting us all the way to Ushuaia on my own. Having the flights, the transport and the boat trip already organised, not to mention the help of Servet and Pamela, meant the only thing I needed to worry about was remembering what to say and not dropping the ring off the back of the boat.”

That did not stop the nerves. “I was nervous from the day we left the UK, so waking up on the day itself. I think about 5 days in, I was feeling alright. That was until we got to the boat. I started to feel the pressure and a tiny part of me was still scared she would say no – and that would have been really awkward for the rest of the trip.”
