James thrives as part of Fife community

This year’s Awards and Amazing Losers games both saw representation from our Scotland community, as our clubs there continue to grow in stature.

Darren Gorman from Paisley picked up Assistant Coach of the Year, whilst twenty-four hours earlier, Gary O’Neill from Fife played in the Amazing Losers match.

We’ve previously spoken about the vibrant Fife community, where weight loss landmarks are almost a weekly occurrence for the group of lads there.

For James Mavor, a long standing player in the Fife club, the weekly MAN v FAT session is a chance for him to let off steam and to forget about the worries of day to day life.

He told us: “For me it’s a couple of hours a week where I’m not Dad, Husband, Boss. I’ve got some time just to be me and have a kick about and laugh with some friends.

“The MAN V FAT Fife community is very special I feel and that all starts with our coach Ryan. He makes everyone feel welcome and part of the club immediately. The club itself has a great mix of people from all different backgrounds and banter is key! We all enjoy a laugh and joke but we are also supportive of everyone’s journey and everyone looks out for each other.”

James has been involved with MAN v FAT since 2022 and is nearly 40kg down from his start weight.

Whilst other diet plans hadn’t worked for him, there has been something special for him with the MAN v FAT programme that’s helped him to succeed.

He said: “I think the main reasons MAN V FAT has worked for me is the simplicity and accountability MAN V FAT brings.

“I’ve tried multiple diets and weight loss plans over the years but they all come with points systems and complicated plans to follow, but with this I can eat what I like but I know I need to track my food and calorie intake and remain present and accountable. That’s important as it just doesn’t impact me if I have a week of excess eating it also impacts the team and ultimately can have massive say on the final score.

“Let’s face it we all have that competitive streak and that plays a massive factor in driving the team forward.”

James continues to strive to hit new landmarks with MAN v FAT, with the 30% achievement tantalisingly close. And, having had his own success story with us, he’s keen to see others join and start their own weight loss journey.

“If you are hesitant or thinking about joining then DO IT!” he added.

“It may seem daunting at first walking into the club and stepping on the scales but once you’ve made that first step to committing to the process it only gets easier. The club supports not just your physical health but also mental health, social isolation etc and I find that helps massively as it lets people strike up friendships with people, they may never interact with on a day-to-day basis.”
