A Little Mini Vacation to Cape Cod For a Reunion

Sometimes the little mini vacations aren’t about seeing as many places as possible—they’re about spending time with people you really enjoy.

I just returned last night from a six-day car trip that included Westchester, NY, Boston, Massachusetts, and Cape Cod.

Our ultimate destination was Cape Cod where we were meeting up with good friends from Florida for a snow-bird reunion. Since it’s about a seven-eight hour drive from our home, we decided to break up the trip along the way there.

Westchester NY to See Our Son and Family

Our first stop was Westchester, where we drove about two and a half hours to spend the afternoon and evening at my son’s home enjoying time with my kids and grandkids.

The next morning, we continued on to Boston, about a three-hour plus drive, where we stayed for the weekend at the home of good friends from Florida too. We enjoyed some good meals, and since we had never been to Boston before, we did a little sightseeing.

Cape Cod

From Boston, it was just another hour or so to Cape Cod, where we finally arrived to spend three days with seven couples who we have known and loved for 10 years now.

The reason we chose Cape Cod for the reunion is that one of the couples has a magnificent summer home right on the ocean, with five beautiful ensuite bedrooms. She was able to accommodate four of the couples in her home, while another friend who lives nearby for the summer in the Cape hosted the remaining couple for sleeping. We all congregated at the Main house during the day for meals and relaxation.

Can you guess whose house it is?

We are all snowbirds who met in Florida. The guys play poker together twice a week all winter in Florida. The gals who also have become friends and get together while the guys are playing poker. We also have pot luck dinners, go to shows, and dinners.

So, what did we do during our three-day reunion?

The guys played poker during the day of course!!!

The grounds of the spa

The gals had a very different agenda. One of the days we went to a really fancy pampering spa for massages, followed by lunch and then dinner out in the cute little tourist town of Falmouth.

The rest of the time was wonderfully relaxed. We cooked together, took walks, chatted on the gorgeous balcony overlooking the ocean, read books, drank wine, and watched movies.

Eventually, the guys would finish their poker games and join us.

It was the kind of getaway that reminds you how special good friendships are. There was no packed schedule and no need to entertain ourselves—we simply enjoyed being together, catching up, laughing, eating, relaxing, and enjoying the beautiful ocean views.

It was a wonderful getaway with really dear friends.

For the trip home, we decided to do the entire drive in one shot. The seven and half-hour car ride was definitely long and tedious, but it was worth it for such a wonderful few days that we got to spend together.
