In August 2026, Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) issued a Request for Information (RFI) on federal policy options to reform the U.S. health coverage system. The RFI focuses on private insurance coverage, including individual market coverage available on Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces and employer-sponsored insurance.
People with insulin-requiring diabetes have a lot at stake in conversations about the future of the U.S. private insurance system, and it is important to lift up this perspective as policymakers develop a more forward-looking vision for health care access.
Georgetown CHIR has analyzed the RFI and published a considerations document for people with insulin-requiring diabetes broken out by topic. Through this comment period, diabetes providers, patient advocates, and other stakeholders have the opportunity to describe how the current system leaves coverage, affordability, and access gaps for people with diabetes, and to help inform future federal policymaking.

Additionally, this resource includes guidance for state consumer advocacy organizations on responding to this RFI.
