Air Fryer Steak Fries (Crispy, Golden & Easy Recipe)

If you’ve ever craved thick, crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside steak fries without deep frying, your air fryer is about to become your new best friend. These air fryer steak fries are golden brown, seasoned to perfection, and ready in under 20 minutesmmno greasy mess required!

Seasoned crispy golden brown air fryer steaks.

Over the last 7 days, I’ve made lots of air fryer steak fries so I can have loaded fries with them for lunch and get rid of my ground beef that I had in my freezer. The frozen steak fries from Aldi brand are pretty low sodium and I like to season them with Dano’s Taco seaosning blend. I really like these fries cause they are low in sodium.

I’ve tested this recipe countless times (yes, I ate a lot of fries in the name of research 😋) and can confirm they come out perfect every time.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • As a food blogger who has made a lot of air fryer recipes, I can confidently say this is the easiest, most reliable method for steak fries.
  • Healthier than Deep Frying – Using an air fryer means you can enjoy crispy fries with way less oil. Some people like to cook potatoes on a skillet but the air fryer is the best method for cooking potatoes.
  • Customizable Seasoning – Keep it classic with salt and pepper, or switch it up with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, or even parmesan.
  • Quick and Convenient – From prep to plate in about 20 minutes.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 1 bag of frozen steak fries – I love the ones from Aldi
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil – Helps the fries brown and crisp in the air fryer.
  • 1 teaspoon salt – Or to taste; you can also use a low-sodium alternative.
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper – Adds just the right amount of flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder – Optional, but highly recommended for extra taste.

Substitution Tips

  • Potatoes – You can definitely make these with regular potatoes instead of frozen. Yukon golds will work if you prefer a creamier texture if you don’t want to use frozen potatoes.
  • Oil – Avocado oil is a great high-heat alternative.
  • Seasoning – Swap in Cajun, ranch, or BBQ seasoning for a fun twist.
  • Low Sodium – Use a salt-free seasoning blend instead of regular salt. – I really like Dano’s Taco or Spicy seasoning blend.

How to Make Air Fryer Steak Fries

Step 1 Season: Toss potato wedges with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until evenly coated.

Step 2 Air Fry: Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Arrange fries in a single layer (work in batches if needed). Cook for 10–13 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.

Step 3 Serve & Enjoy: Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce. I like to load these up with taco toppings: ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, mild sauce, and avocado for easy and filling meal.

Pro Tips for Perfect Steak Fries

  • Dry thoroughly – Any excess moisture will steam the fries instead of crisping them.
  • No overcrowding – Give them space so the air can circulate.
  • Reheat like a pro – Pop leftovers back in the air fryer at 375°F for 3–4 minutes to revive crispiness.

Recipe FAQS

Nope! I love leaving the skin on for extra texture and nutrients, but peeling works too.

Can I make steak fries in advance?

I never make frozen steak fries in advance but you can make homemade ones in advance.

What’s the best dipping sauce for steak fries?

Ketchup is classic, but I love them with chipotle mayo or homemade ranch.
