Let’s Chat About Pears:

Pears are a fabulous source of dietary fiber (a medium sized pear has 6 grams of fiber, 21% of the recommended daily allowance) and are high in vitamin C, a proven antioxidant. Pears also offer potassium (a medium sized pear has 190 mg of potassium, which is 5% of the recommended daily allowance). They contain no saturated fat, sodium, or cholesterol. A medium pear has about 100 calories.

Pears are an interesting fruit because they ripen best off the tree. Pears are transported when fully mature, but not always ripe. This means the pears you buy are in good condition to properly ripen at home after you buy them.

Eight Fall Green Salads with Pears:

Ok, let’s get to it!

  1. This beautiful Pear and Pomegranate Winter Salad is a snap to pull together and makes a gorgeous addition to your family dinner table as well as the holiday table. The ingredients are simple and the dressing takes two minutes to whisk together. Trust me, it’s fabulous.

2. Everything about this Grilled Pear and Prosciutto Salad with Burrata is dreamy….the creamy burrata, the grilled pears, the prosciutto and the smooth white balsamic dressing. It’s all pretty fantastic separately, but put it all together in a salad and it’s truly something exquisite.

3. This Butter Leaf Salad with Creamy Pear Vinaigrette is made with tender butter leaf lettuce, dried cranberries, caramelized walnuts and sweet creamy pear vinaigrette and it’s this one of my favorite salads! It’s simple enough to make for a casual family dinner, but elegant enough to serve at baby showers and dinner parties too.

4. The Rustic Italian Salad because it’s loaded with all things I consider to be the best Italy has to offer! This salad makes a great side dish, light main course or lunch. You’re going to love it.

5. If you are a longtime viewer of my blog you have probably noticed goat cheese is a common ingredient in my salads. Goat cheese is soft, creamy and mildly flavored, I love it. Needless to say these Greens with Warm Breaded Goat Cheese and Fig Balsamic  are on the top of my list of all time favorite salads.

6. Late summer to early autumn is the season of the blackberry! This Pear and Blackberry Salad has it all: greens, thinly sliced pears, chopped pistachios, soft cheese and a beautiful Lemon Poppyseed Vinaigrette heavy on the chives.

7. Greens with Asian Pears and Fig Balsamic: This salad is made up of mixed greens, sweet asian pears, caramelized nuts and soft goat cheese. These flavors and textures work incredibly well together. Asian Pears are like a cross between an apple and a pear, they are sweet and grainy. If you can’t find them sub for your favorite pear.

8. Last but definitely not least, this Pear and Brie Salad with Honey Champagne Vinaigrette is simple and delicious.
