Homemade Cherry Limeade Gatorade – Deliciously Organic

Homemade Cherry Limeade Gatorade is a fantastic way to replace electrolytes and it’s free of any preservatives or food dyes.

Homemade Cherry Limeade Gatorade

Unfortunately, most gatorade drinks contain ingredients such as sugar, dextrose (usually made from GMO corn), artificial flavors and food dyes. That doesn’t sound like the best way to nourish the body after a hard workout.

When I was thinking of finding a natural gatorade replacement, I called my brother, Erik Korem, who is a director for the NY Jets and he said this the perfect substitute. In this recipe, we’re using just pure fruit juice, sea salt, raw honey and filtered water!

The Celtic sea salt is going to provide over 80 different minerals which is a great way to replace electrolytes.

This recipe is in a concentrate form, so you can keep a batch of it in the fridge and then add 1-2 teaspoons to 8 ounces of water. You can add extra lime if you’d like to bump up the flavor!

1/2 cup juice (I used cherry)
2 tablespoons raw honey
1/4 teaspoon Celtic sea salt or any other unrefined sea salt

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in a small saucepan. Heat over low, stirring occasionally until honey and salt is dissolved. Pour into a glass container and store in the refrigerator. If you use a fresh juice (unpasteurized) it will keep for about 4 days in the fridge. If you use a pasteurized juice it will keep for about 2 weeks in the fridge.
  2. To serve: Stir 1-2 teaspoons concentrate into 8 ounces water (if you prefer a stronger flavor add an additional teaspoon or two) or mix all of the concentrate with two quarts of water.
