Lululemon Socks Review: A Mom’s Secret Weapon

I have an unpopular opinion: socks are the true unsung heroes of our daily routines, and they definitely don’t get the credit they deserve. They’re not flashy, buzzy, or dominating weekly trends, but holy moly, can you feel the difference when you’re wearing an amazing pair instead of one with irritating seams. A perfect pair is supportive, enabling you to land softly on your feet, keeps you cool and comfy, allowing you to carry on with your day without thinking twice, and is multi-purpose.

As a fitness and wellness editor, busy parent of two young children, and a long-distance runner, I’ve tested more athletic, running, and travel socks than I can count, but none have come close to Lululemon’s Unisex Daily Essential Crew Socks. Not only did these easily tackle my five times weekly long-distance runs, daily school pickups, and a long journey to Costa Rica, but they also provided incredible support and comfort during a surprise 10-mile hike on a scorching day. One of my favorite things about Lululemon’s Unisex Daily Essential Crew Socks is their unique ability to adapt to various types of temperatures and conditions, which allows them to easily handle anything from intense playground sessions with my kids to all-day travel. 

My kids love heading to the playground on weekends and especially enjoy a good game of tag and hide-and-seek. We usually head out early in the mornings when it’s still a bit chilly and play until we need a break from the LA heat. This means I’m wearing layers that keep me warm, but can be easily removed when it gets extremely hot. But socks are another story. To keep up, they have to be warm enough to protect me from the early morning cold but breathable enough to withstand the intense, dry heat that rolls in. And these socks do just that.

They’re thick and incredibly soft, with a crew length that keeps feet, ankles, and lower legs perfectly warm, yet breathable and moisture-wicking enough to keep me dry, cool, and comfy, even during a game of tag in 90+ degree weather.

In even chillier circumstances, they also shine–a major plus for someone like me who tends to run cold. My partner and I recently ventured to Costa Rica with our two little ones. Our journey included two flights and a lengthy and winding car ride to our final destination. I tend to get very cold at the airport and on planes, and my sensitive skin often dries out significantly. 

Prior to leaving for our red eye, I moisturized my skin, including my legs and feet, and slipped on these socks. Both at the airport and during the two flights, my feet felt perfectly warm and comfortable, and the socks never budged, despite how often I shifted around to help my little ones get comfy.

After a long 12-hour travel day, complete with overexhausted children and very sleep-deprived parents, when we finally made it to our room and got ready for bed, my feet and lower legs were about the only parts of my body that were still comfortable and well-moisturized thanks to these socks. They completely locked in the heavy cream I applied over 12 hours prior, leaving my skin feeling fresh, hydrated, and soft to the touch.

As a busy parent, I’m always on the lookout for high-performing clothing options that are easy to clean, highly durable, and very comfortable. If I’m out and about with my kids or playing tag with them, the last thing I want to do is stop to adjust anything I’m wearing, and with a very speedy three-year-old, I don’t really have that option. 

Not only do these crew socks stay comfortably in place, but they’ve also withstood countless rounds of laundering in the washing machine and dryer, and they still look exactly the same as they did when I first tried them on. It’s not often that I find such a high-quality option that actually exceeds my expectations in terms of performance, and also easily withstands family life, including ice cream spills, bath time splashes, scooter rides, countless tugs, and practicing cartwheels.

These socks have not only become my running buddies and travel partners, but also completely saved my feet from some pretty bad injuries on an unexpected 10-mile hike in scorching hot weather.

As a runner, there’s nothing better than a well-cushioned sock that protects your feet from blisters, uncomfortable chafing, and overheating. I run about five to six times a week, anywhere from 3.5 to 8 miles, and have felt a significant difference when wearing these socks compared to my other options, which include very thick cotton socks that tend to overstretch and thin wool socks that don’t adequately protect my feet from impact.

I love how these Lululemon socks gently hug your feet while providing incredibly comfortable arch support and targeted cushioning throughout the footbed, never slipping or sliding down. This allows me to completely focus on my running goals, without feeling distracted by uncomfortable bunching, overheating, or skin irritation. 

Perfect for Runs and Hikes

During our long journey to Costa Rica, I also found that they helped me sprint across a very slick airport floor (while carrying my three-year-old and a heavy tote bag) to our connecting flight’s gate, which we had been minutes away from missing. They fully protected my feet and allowed me to run comfortably while carrying a significant amount of extra weight, and thankfully, we made it just in time to board our flight, sans blisters.

And, they totally had my back when a six-mile hike turned into a 10-mile hike in very hot weather. What was supposed to be a relaxing, scenic hike turned into an intense, nearly five-hour trek in extremely dry heat when we accidentally took a wrong turn on an overgrown path. My thin leggings couldn’t withstand the pokes and prickles of the brush, but my thick, protective socks saved my lower legs and ankles from any discomfort.

While my partner walked away with some pretty brutal blisters, at the end of the day, my feet were sore, but had no blisters or irritation in sight.

As someone with incredibly sensitive skin, finding a performance sock that doesn’t lead to any skin discomfort or rashes has always been a challenge. Lululemon’s crew socks are sensitive skin-friendly and are composed mostly of soft cotton, blended with a small percentage of performance fabrics to achieve the perfect balance of breathability, stretch, and moisture-wicking capabilities. This allows my feet to stay cool, dry, and comfy, whether I’m running through the airport, hitting the treadmill, or tackling errands in very hot weather.

With soft cushioning throughout the footbed, built-in arch support, a seamless, padded toe construction, and a supportive crew height that never bunches or slips down, these socks can easily be paired with running shoes, casual sneakers, and even boots.

As a fitness editor, parent, and long-distance runner, Lululemon’s Daily Essential Crew Socks absolutely exceeded my expectations. These crew socks combine incredible, well-cushioned comfort, built-in arch support, seamless construction, breathability, and exceptional durability, allowing them to easily adapt to my needs whether I’m playing outside with my kids, running long distances in hot weather, or traveling on a chilly airplane. As an editor who has tested countless athletic, fitness, casual, and running socks, these socks have become my go-to old reliables because they not only feel amazing but work exceptionally well in any given situation, from casual wear to chilly flights to strenuous workouts in over 90-degree weather. 

The versatility of these socks truly surprised me, as they work well for a wide range of individuals, including runners, avid travelers, busy parents, hikers, and others seeking a comfortable, breathable, and supportive option.
