Outdoor Patio Decor For Summer • Kath Eats

Sprucing up your outdoor spaces this summer? Whether it’s for happy hour on the porch, a picnic with your people, or just a casual night by the fire pit, new outdoor patio decor for summer will add some fun to the season!

Porch + Patio Season Is In Full Swing

Every summer I can’t wait to throw open the windows and start living outside. When we built our shiplap screened-in porch a few years ago, it really changed our indoor-outdoor living in the warmer months. We eat dinner outside almost every night (except for those 100 degree, 100% humidity days!).

We have spent so many hours enjoying our outdoor space for happy hours, family dinners, afternoon reads (and naps), and more.

Now that we have a trampoline in the yard, I am looking to replace the rotting furniture down there in order to make it more livable (and make us actually want to go down to the yard!). Perhaps a pair of Adirondack chairs? Our front porch is great for watching the kids play in the front or waiting for a guest to arrive, and we have these rocking chairs which I LOVE!

Our screened-in porch couch is the Palmetto All Weather Wicker from Pottery Barn in Honey, and the coffee table is this West Elm coffee table. It’s not made for outdoor, but since this space doesn’t get a ton of rain, it’s working out there for now (there is some sun fading though).

Every summer patio needs comfortable seating!

I’ve never been thrilled with the color of the wood on the rocking chairs we bought back in 2021, but they’ve faded a bit to better match the coffee table tone. They are super comfortable, and I still love the design!

More Porch Inspo For Your Outdoor Decor Ideas

I have everything on our porch linked in this post, but I also rounded up some other practical outdoor patio decor for summer.

Of course most of it is neutral (no bright red garden gnomes in this list), but that makes it even easier to add your own flair with patterns and pops of color. Check out my friend Ellen’s colorful screened porch for decor inspiration and summer decorating ideas!

How To Decorate Your Patio For Summer

1. Add Layers of Light

Use string lights, solar lanterns, or LED candles to create a warm glow for summer evenings. Lighting adds ambiance and makes the space functional after sunset. I love that our porch lights can dim.

2. Bring in Pops of Color

If calming neutrals aren’t your style, try swapping out cushions, rugs, and tableware for vibrant, summery hues like coral, turquoise, citrus yellow, or botanical greens.

3. Incorporate Natural Elements

Decorate with potted plants, hanging baskets, or even a small herb garden. Choose low-maintenance summer blooms like geraniums, lavender, or succulents to bring life to your outdoor oasis. The ultimate practical decor: a small herb planter!

4. Create Cozy Zones

Define seating or lounging areas with an outdoor rug, small side tables, or a hammock chair. Layer pillows and throws for added comfort and style to your outdoor living space. I love having both a dining area and seating – a couch for naps and conversation chairs.

5. Add Personal Touches

Use decorative trays, candles, seasonal centerpieces, or outdoor art like a garden statue to make the space feel like an extension of your home.

FURNITURE

Carlisle Acacia Wood Picnic Dining Set – I love the look of this set with the casual benches!

Light Brown Eucalyptus Outdoor Couch – this gorgeous outdoor couch is on mega sale!

Round All Weather Wicker Chairs – Stackable and easy to move, these patio chairs are weather-resistant, meaning they will look good all season.

Round Dining Table – I like the simplicity of this light wood dining table. And you can’t beat the price!

Pottery Barn Tulum Bar Cart – This metal bar cart from Pottery Barn is all sorts of sophisticated. If it’s not in your budget, I really like this neutral wood bar cart via Amazon for a fraction of the cost.

DECOR

Indoor/Outdoor String Lights – A string of lights can elevate the vibe of any outdoor space.

Citronella Candle – The only pesky thing about outdoor patio/porch hangs is the bugs, right? This citronella candle is pineapple scented – ahhh!

Black Lanterns – If you’re clueless on where to start with outdoor decor (hopefully this post helps), simply add a couple of lanterns and the vibe will start to come alive.

Planters – Going with the neutral theme through and through, plant flowers or greenery in few of these concrete planters to add a little life to your outdoor arrangement.

Picnic Blanket – I love the light neutral pattern. Perfect to pack for a park picnic, evening concert, or throw on the front lawn.

Performance Rugs – If you’re looking for a beautiful indoor/outdoor rug, Serena & Lily’s are stunning and often 20% off.

Offset Hanging Market Patio Umbrella – If your outdoor umbrellas have seen many sunny summers, it might be time to switch out the faded and worn umbrella for something stiff and new. I wish we still had the huge one that used to be on the patio!

OUTDOOR FUN

Solo Stove – We are huge fans of our Solo Stove! Move it around the yard easily and create the perfect low-smoke ambiance. (I say low smoke because IMO it’s not totally smokeless!)

Picnic Cheese Board – Cheese board to go? Yes please! Create an outdoor charcuterie board and wow your friends.

Outdoor Movie Screen – Sure, you can hang a sheet up, but this set is probably not going to fall down.

Croquet Set – We used to have one when I was little, and my sister and I had a lot of fun playing around the yard!

Yeti Cooler Bag – Thomas got me this for my birthday one year and it’s been a GREAT bag for picnics, parties, and the beach. I’m a big fan of the soft cooler bag.

Cleaning Patio Furniture

We like to give our porch a nice clean after a long winter. Here are some of the steps I take every spring once it seems like pollen season has wound down:

  • Remove and machine wash all cushions (so not fun, but makes such a difference!)
  • Spray off all furniture, including the table
  • Remove cobwebs from corners
  • Spray down the floor
  • Freshen up the plants / planters (or bring them outside if they’ve been inside for the winter)
  • Get the grills restocked for summer use (have extra propane/charcoal on hand!)
  • Dust anything high up like the TV / remote controls / fans
