PROS & THINGS I LIKE

  • Nestled behind Copenhagen’s iconic Lakes and just off H.C. Andersens Boulevard, Manon Les Suites Hotel enjoys a great location, with easy walking access to both vibrant urban landmarks and peaceful green pockets. Within minutes, you’re immersed in Copenhagen charm: artisanal coffee shops, galleries, the historic Latin Quarter, and the culinary maze of Torvehallerne are all within reach. Tivoli Gardens and Strøget, two of the most beloved city draws, are closeby—making both late-night exploration and early sightseeing convenient. While the surroundings are practical rather than postcard-pretty, it’s the proximity to culture, food, and easy transport that makes this location supremely compelling. From Copenhagen Airport, it’s a seamless journey: metro to Forum station followed by a short stroll—or even faster by a 20 min taxi ride.
  • Housed in a stately building dating back to 1883, Manon Les Suites preserves its architectural heritage with high ceilings and classic masonry, while infusing it with fresh, bohemian spirit. In 2016, the eco-focused Guldsmeden Hotels took stewardship of the structure and unveiled a revitalized retreat in 2017—a thoughtful restoration that honors tradition while elevating it with modern comforts. This transformation embodies the chain’s ethos: celebrating sustainability, weaving organic materials with historical character in a way that feels organic, not forced. The hotel’s design and ethos act as a physical narrative—melding past and present in ways that feel rooted, thoughtful, and distinctive. Sustainability here is not a marketing gimmick, but part of the building’s DNA—resilience meets environmental mindfulness.
  • Manon Les Suites Hotel offers 87 generously sized suites that serve as a private sanctuary, beautifully appointed and customizable to mood and need—from pool access to cityscape views. Each suite is styled with a four-poster canopy bed, soft organic linens, and curated amenities like bamboo toothbrushes, recycled bottles, and eco-conscious toiletries. Some Deluxe suites even feature freestanding bathtubs ideal for a ritualistic soak by soft lamplight, while living areas with sofas, kitchenettes, and yoga mats invite relaxation, creativity, or light self-catering. The design employs reclaimed wood accent walls, warm concrete floorboards, and richly hued textiles that feel both cosmopolitan and grounded. Plus, the hotel thoughtfully offers ear plugs and ambient lighting settings—anticipating comfort needs long before they’re voiced.
  • The ground-floor lobby may feel understated, but the real spectacle begins one level up at the Junglefish Pool—arguably one of Copenhagen’s most striking places. This heated, emerald-hued pool sits beneath a soaring glass atrium, framed by lush tropical greenery, glowing fish-shaped lanterns, and intimate sunbeds bathed in soft light. By day, natural sunlight filters down to illuminate a mossy mosaic of tiles, while guests drift in the water beneath swaying plants. Come nightfall, the scene shifts: shadows deepen, cocktails are poured, and a curated soundtrack infuses the space with a moody, club-like energy. For most guests, the Junglefish Pool is the defining reason to book a stay at Manon Les Suites Hotel—or at the very least, a spa-day pass to savor this urban oasis.
  • The hotel’s unique design unfolds like a theatrical set piece: binoculars, suspended fish-shaped lamps, and botanical greenery cascade down five-story atrium walls, drawing the eye upward into a suspended jungle drama. The central Junglefish Pool (cf. supra) is encased by moody foliage, candlelit lanterns, and vintage-inspired birdcages—creating a haven that feels both mystical and intimate. Worn brass fixtures, terrazzo accents, and artisanal clay pots bring texture and authenticity, rich with craft details. Elevated walkways and steel catwalks add industrial flair, transforming the pool area into a hybrid of urban loft meets tropical conservatory. Everywhere you look, unexpected design flourishes—a worn leather armchair, artisan rugs, and whimsical décor—invite prolonged exploration and visual delight.
  • On the top floor of Manon Les Suites Hotel, Restaurant Chapung provides sunset panoramas alongside an eclectic Asian-fusion menu and a cocktail list built for lingering. Guests can lounge on cushioned daybeds on the outdoor rooftop terrace or around the venue’s minimalist Nordic-low tables, set against a skyline backdrop dusted with Copenhagen rooftops. The menu marries global flavor with simplicity—think satays, light curries, and creative appetizers designed to pair with rooftop air and city views. While food aficionados might still head out to more adventurous dining spots nearby, Manon Les Suites’ rooftop restaurant excels as a mood maker—perfect for sunset drinks, lounging, or sharing quiet morning breakfasts.
  • The Jungle Gym in the Manon Les Suites Hotel’s basement offers a surprisingly large fitness space—complete with ample cardio machines, weights, and a full boxing ring, perfect for a high-energy workout or playful spar. It’s open 24/7, letting guests train at any hour—whether it’s a dawn stretch or midnight mindfulness. Post-workout, the rooftop spa delivers a steamy herbal-infused room, traditional sauna, and the dramatic cold-water bucket plunge—all embraced in Balinese warmth and Nordic simplicity. Fresh towels, fruit-infused water, and even sea-salt-infused hydration are thoughtful touches that elevate the routine. Massages, available in private treatment rooms, extend the wellness journey—carrying forward the hotel’s commitment to sensory detail and pampering.

CONS & THINGS TO KNOW

  • The central Junglefish Pool, while visually striking and a hub of energy, can become a double-edged sword. Guests staying in rooms that border the courtyard may find the lively atmosphere seeping into their space, particularly during peak hours when families and groups gather. While the design celebrates community and vibrancy, those seeking a more serene retreat may want to request accommodations on higher floors, where the elevated perspective brings a welcome layer of calm. Also, while tranquil most mornings, the pool’s popularity later in the day can make finding a lounger a challenge.

  • The hotel’s restaurant delivers a satisfying dining experience, pairing well-executed dishes with scenic surroundings. However, in a city like Copenhagen—renowned for its groundbreaking culinary scene and Michelin-starred innovation—the in-house offering doesn’t quite reach the same heights. It serves as a convenient and comfortable option, but travelers eager for the kind of gastronomic adventure the city is famous for will likely want to step outside the property to explore the vibrant local dining landscape.
  • Manon Les Suites Hotel impresses with its bold, jungle-inspired design, but the focus on aesthetics sometimes comes at the expense of practicality. The elevators, for instance, are notably small, fitting only a few people at a time and requiring manual effort to operate heavy doors, which can be inconvenient for those carrying luggage or with mobility challenges. Corridors and common areas lean toward dim, moody lighting that enhances the dramatic ambiance but can feel less inviting or functional when navigating the space. For many, these quirks are part of the property’s charm, but for travelers who prioritize comfort over spectacle, the balance between form and usability may feel less satisfying.
  • Manon Les Suites Hotel is situated along a busy street, which can make certain rooms a bit noisy, particularly during the evening and early morning hours. Traffic sounds can carry into these guest rooms despite closed windows. Sirens, delivery trucks, and other urban sounds can be especially disruptive to light sleepers or those unaccustomed to city noise. While the location is convenient for exploring Copenhagen, guests who prioritize a quiet and restful stay may wish to request rooms on the upper floors or those facing away from the street to minimize disturbances.

  • During my stay at Manon Les Suites Hotel, I booked a massage, but it was a rather disappointing experience, with the therapist seeming inexperienced and the pressure not quite right. While this was unfortunate, the hotel was receptive to my feedback and handled the situation professionally, demonstrating responsiveness to guest concerns. It’s worth noting that the spa service is provided by a third-party partner rather than hotel staff, which can result in some variability in quality.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit Copenhagen is from late spring to early autumn, between May and September, when the weather is mild, the days are long, and the city comes alive with outdoor cafes, harbor swimming, and lively festivals. June is especially charming with up to 17 hours of daylight, while July and August offer a buzzing atmosphere, though they are also the busiest and most expensive months. If you prefer fewer crowds and a slightly cooler but still pleasant climate, September is an excellent choice, with the added bonus of cultural events and a relaxed vibe. For those seeking a magical winter experience, December transforms Copenhagen into a fairy-tale setting with enchanting Christmas markets and Tivoli Gardens illuminated by thousands of lights, perfect for soaking up the Danish concept of “hygge.” On the other hand, January and February are the quietest and most budget-friendly months, ideal if you want to explore museums and cozy cafes without the bustle of tourists, though the weather will be cold and the days short.

HOW TO GET THERE

Reaching Manon Les Suites in Copenhagen is simple and convenient whether you arrive by air, train, or bus. From Copenhagen Airport, the M2 metro line toward Vanløse, change at Kongens Nytorv, and continue to Forum Station, followed by an eight-minute walk to the hotel, or opt for the direct 5C bus, which stops nearby, while taxis and ride-shares provide the quickest door-to-door option. If you arrive at Copenhagen Central Station or Nørreport Station, both are within a pleasant 15-minute walk, though you can also take the metro to Forum or hop on several local buses that drop you just steps away at Niels Ebbesens Vej.
