Spring Things • Kath Eats

Hello, hello!! Happy May! We are loving warmer weather. I always say on May 1st, the best six months of the year have arrived. Gimme all the humidity! Our school ends early this year – right after Memorial Day weekend. So we’re in the home stretch till summer already. That means our trip to Europe is right around the corner. I better start packing and planning some details for our day visits from the cruise ship! If anyone has been to Positano, Tunis, Carloforte, or Palma – feel free to drop tips and restaurant recs in the comments!

Here is a bit of our life lately, including concerts, lots of Harry Potter, puzzling, and Kath Eats Real Food features!

Date Night To Mt. Joy Concert

Thomas surprised me with tickets to see Mt. Joy at John Paul Jones arena last month! As we often do before JPJ shows, we went to Birch and Bloom for cocktails and dinner before.

I love the vibe in there! We had a couple of Mezcal drinks to start.

And shared some apps and an entree – loved the Brussels sprouts and the salmon dish.

I didn’t know much about Mt. Joy before going, but I enjoyed the show! They had a great vibe. The place was packed with fans!

Harry Potter Everywhere

Any given day, you’ll probably see a self-drawn lightning bolt scar drawn onto Birch’s forehead. That sums up the stage we’re in! He got a HP accessories set in his Easter basket, and we’ve been reading the first book to him. Mazen is on book 4 or 5 I think. He’s FINALLY been interested in reading them! I told him years ago if he read all seven books I’d book a trip to Universal, so I guess I gotta uphold that promise : )

Tom Tom Festival

The Tom Tom festival came and went Easter weekend. I was pretty busy with the Mt Joy concert and getting ready for my trips with Compass and Ancient Nutrition to go to most of the events, but the boys and I walked downtown for one of the block parties.

While I was there, my high school BFF, Becca, texted me that she happened to be in Cville, and I looked up and she was just across the way! We got to hang for an hour while we strolled around. Such a fun coincidence!

Kid Juice Flights at Eastwood

Just a quick shout out to one of our favorite local vineyards, Eastwood, that has juice flights for kids! It made a playdate afternoon fun for us both.

Spring Concert

I wish I could show you the whole video of Birch’s spring music concert at his school – it was the cutest! Look how proud he was to stand up there and sing!

Brazos Fun Time

Brazos is one of my very favorite spots in town. Love their cheese dip SO MUCH. The kids love it, too. I’ve been hooked on their limeade as a NA marg-type drink when I’m not drinking.

Puzzologists At Work

One Thursday night at happy hour, we decided to do a 500 piece puzzle in one sitting. I thought it would go by so fast, but it actually took us over three hours! I will say that we were all eating and talking, and only 3-4 of us worked diligently on the puzzle, but we finished!

Date Night to Tilman’s

We have a few new babysitter contacts that have been amazing to have over so we can get out together a bit more! Like this spontaneous dinner at Tilman’s! Such a great spot for people watching.

Neighbor Fun

Birch has a new neighborhood buddy and it’s made such a difference in our afternoons! I love that they just go back and forth between houses.

New Red Blend from Maker!

Maker sent me a sample of their new red blend! Love having these on hand for summertime when we’re more likely to need to take them on a picnic or to the pool.

New red blend:

  •  Sangiovese, Barbera, Cab, and a splash of Zin
  •  Dry + full-bodied, plush fruit, silky tannins
  •  Paso Robles grown
  •  Woman-made, woman-owned
  • Eco-friendly, single-serve can (1.5 glasses)
