Strawberry Protein Shake | Diethood

This strawberry protein shake tastes just like strawberry cheesecake! It’s made with frozen berries, cream cheese, honey, and your favorite protein powder. Take this shake to go, or make it into a protein smoothie bowl for a satisfying breakfast.

A Protein Shake That Tastes Like Strawberry Cheesecake

Every time I make this strawberry protein shake, I end up making a mess. There’s protein powder all over the counter. But it’s WORTH IT! The mess ends with this creamy, cool strawberry protein shake that tastes just like my strawberry cheesecake ice cream. Unlike ice cream and cheesecake, though, you can enjoy this shake guilt-free. For breakfast. Every day.

Recipes like my coffee protein smoothie and this shake are quick to make and portable. Between my no-bake energy balls and a strawberry protein shake, my day is officially fuelled. Yours will be, too!

Strawberry Protein Shake Ingredients

You’ll blend the following ingredients with ice to make this creamy strawberry protein shake. Scroll to the recipe card for the exact amounts for each ingredient.

  • Plain Yogurt – I use non-fat, but any yogurt works. Greek yogurt would be extra creamy and thick.
  • Cream Cheese – This is what gives the protein shake the cheesecake flavor. I use whipped cream cheese since it’s already softened. If using regular cream cheese, bring it to room temperature before using.
  • Milk – This can be skim milk, 2%, whole milk, or your preferred non-dairy milk, like oat milk.
  • Frozen Strawberries – Frozen berries help thicken the shake.
  • Protein Powder – Choose your favorite vanilla or unflavored protein powder. You can use whey protein, collagen protein, etc.
  • Honey – To keep this shake refined sugar-free.

Fresh vs. Frozen Strawberries

Frozen berries will thicken the shake. If you want to use fresh berries, just add extra ice to help with thickening the consistency. I love to use fresh strawberries when they’re in season, and I replace some of the whole strawberries with the fresh strawberry syrup from my strawberry milk recipe.

Optional Garnishes

I make this protein shake with strawberries, but you could just as easily use blueberries, raspberries, or any fruit, and garnish the glass however you’d like. Maybe a cherry cheesecake version with frozen cherries is next!

These are some easy garnishes I’ll use for my protein shake:

  • Fresh strawberries (or any berries)
  • Mint leaves
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Chopped nuts

Make a Protein Smoothie Bowl

Turn this strawberry protein shake into a smoothie bowl. Transfer the blended shake to a bowl and add toppings like shaved coconut, chocolate chips, homemade granola, nuts, seeds, and fresh fruit. It takes less than 10 minutes and goes great with a matcha latte on rare mornings when I’m not dashing out the door.

  • Blend. Combine the yogurt, cream cheese, milk, strawberries, protein powder, honey, and ice cubes in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more milk and blend to a desired consistency.

  • Serve. Pour into glasses. Optionally, garnish with fresh strawberries, mint, vegan mini chocolate chips, and a sprinkle of nuts.

How to Make a Strawberry Protein Shake

To make this protein shake, add all of the ingredients to a blender or food processor. I love a NutriBullet or MagicBullet blender for making smoothies, since you can blend and drink it from the same container. But any machine will do the trick.

Process until the shake is smooth and creamy. If needed, transfer the shake into individual glasses. Add garnishes, and serve!
