If you’re heading to the Baja Sur state of Mexico at the bottom of the Baja Peninsula, you’re probably going to Los Cabos, Todos Santo, or La Paz. While most major chains have at least one property in the region where you can earn loyalty points or take advantage of your elite status, there are far fewer of them than you’d probably expect. Small chains and independent resorts make up a lot of the luxury hotel scene in the region.

This is especially true if you want a resort on the beach, not a quick-stay business hotel. Many of the best resorts are part of Mexican chains such as Velas Resorts, or smaller upscale brands such as One&Only, Montage, Viceroy, and Rosewood.
After just spending close to two weeks in the area again, researching updates and a couple of new openings, we’ve got the lowdown on where to check in if the points or status are a top priority on your vacation.
IHG Hotels – Kimpton in Todos Santos
One of the new openings we covered was the only chain hotel around the Todos Santos region: Kimpton Mas Olas. This also happens to be the only luxury IHG property on the Baja Peninsula. That’s reason enough to head up here from the airport instead of going to much busier Los Cabos, but the resort itself is well-designed and well-run too.
Staying here you have multiple swimming pool complexes, a huge spa, and restaurants that make use of a large organic garden on site. The grounds have more native plants and flowers than any other property in the region and the almost empty beach is huge. Check out the video below for a tour and see our full review of Kimpton Mas Olas here.
Also note, if you’re not too picky, there’s a less fancy Hotel Indigo in La Paz.
Hilton Hotels – Waldorf-Astoria Pedregal
There’s a long-standing Hilton in Los Cabos that’s right on the beach, near the nicer Marquis Resort, then some lower-end options like a Tapestry Collection hotel and a Hampton Inn that’s not waterfront. If you want to go upscale though, you’re going to have to go all the way and stay at the Waldorf-Astoria Pedregal. This was originally run by another chain, but got switched to a W-A after Hilton started expanding internationally with that brand.
This cliffside hotel is a AAA 5-Diamond resort and frequently shows up at the top of readers’ polls in glossy magazines. The resort has a chilly relationship with the media, however, so instead of directing you to our outdated review, we suggest you check the recent customer comments on an independent site like Booking.com where only past guests can write a review. We’ve had a meal and a drink there with the foreign retirees the resort is most popular with, but they haven’t let us stay or even have a look around the rooms since they completed some needed renovations in 2025.
Hilton recently signed a partnership with Small Luxury Hotels that allows them to offer those to their loyalty members as Honors points options, but the two hotels included in this area, both in Todos Santos, have extremely high redemption rates.
Hyatt Hotels – The Cape and Park Hyatt
Hyatt used to only have a Ziva all-inclusive property and a budget option here, but then after they acquired the company behind Secrets, they got a big Secrets Puerto Los Cabos resort out past San Jose del Cabo. The real pride and joy for Hyatt though is from an earlier acquisition, when they took over Thompson Hotels and ended up with The Cape.
We recently stayed at The Cape, a Thompson Hotel as it was celebrating its 10-year anniversary and there’s plenty to love about it. It has some of the best views in the area, looking right across the bay to the Los Cabos Arch and out at surfers taking advantage of the reliable break in front. The sunset views are terrific, the restaurants are highly rated, and there’s a nice infinity pool complex with a swim-up bar that overlooks the ocean.
Rooms are fun and artistic, plus you get those great views from the balcony. There’s a full spa and well-equipped gym, plus you’re not very far from downtown Cabo San Lucas. See our review of The Cape Los Cabos or check out our video tour below.
A Park Hyatt opened just as we were visiting in late 2025, but one single travel outlet was given a multi-month exclusive to cover the opening, so we haven’t set foot in it. We’ll let you know if it’s on par with the competition here once the rest of the media gets access.
Marriott Hotels – Plenty of Choices in Los Cabos
The largest hotel chain in the world and the biggest player in the Americas is true to form in Los Cabos, with 10 properties total. Some of these are at the low end, like Fairfield and City Express, but then they go up to the high end with Zadun, a Ritz Carlton Reserve.
Since the Ritz properties have their own loyalty program, that one is tricky for regular Marriott Bonvoy members, plus the rates start in the thousands for the lowest category, so you might want to check into its next door neighbor instead: JW Marriott Los Cabos. Yes, it does have ample meeting facilities, but most of the guests there when I stayed were regular vacationers leaving their biz decisions at home.
You’re sure to have a great view from your room at the Solaz Los Cabos, on a nice stretch of beach in the corridor near Grand Velas and Le Blanc. Other options that are not as high-end are the Westin Los Cabos and the Autograph Collection hotel Hacienda del Mar.
Smaller Loyalty Program Options

Since many high-end hotel chains are not widespread or international in scope, some travelers will let the locations they do have guide their vacation plans and they’ll be rewarded for their loyalty in a less well-known fashion. If you belong to some kind of formal program with Nobu Hotels, Rosewood, Montage, Viceroy, One&Only, Auberge, or Four Seasons, you’ll find a resort you can book in Los Cabos for all of them.
There are a few Preferred Hotels as well, if you belong to that loyalty program. Its members cross multiple owners and companies and they have two resorts here that we’ve reviewed in full: Montage Los Cabos and the all-inclusive Grand Velas. Soon we’ll be adding a newer one that’s also in the program: the adults-only Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos.
The cement trucks never stop in Los Cabos though and more resorts are on the way. For now there’s nothing from Accor or Banyan Tree, but since both have been expanding in Mexico, we may see them show up soon. We do know there’s an Aman resort coming to the East Cape area near the Four Seasons…
