Nationwide men’s weight loss programme MAN v FAT Football is due to launch a new health and wellbeing centred football club in Brentwood on 15th September, with funded spaces available thanks to support from Brentwood Council.
The programme’s organisers are encouraging local men who are looking to lose weight to take advantage of a free 14-week season.
The new club’s weekly sessions will take place every Monday at 8:00 pm, at Brentwood Town FC.
MAN v FAT Football is an FA endorsed weight-loss programme for men with a BMI over 27.5. It has more than 8,000 members nationally, who have collectively lost more than 870,000 pounds of unwanted weight.
Thanks to a partnership with Brentwood Council, men joining the new club from certain postcode areas may be eligible for a free initial 14 week season of the programme. This is subject to a £10 deposit, refundable at the end of the season.
The FA endorsed scheme is focused around a weekly club, where players weigh in and play 28-minute, small-sided games of football. Extra goals are awarded to the team with the greatest weight loss. Both goals scored on the pitch, and collective pounds lost off the pitch count towards a team’s standing in the club’s league table.
Richard Crick, Director of MAN v FAT says: “We are delighted to expand our programme to Brentwood. In Essex, we already have hugely successful clubs in locations like Romford, Chelmsford, and Southend, where we have helped hundreds of men lose thousands of pounds of unwanted weight. It’s always a pleasure to launch a new club, and to meet new men starting their journeys with us.
“The club will get underway on September 15th, and thanks to support from Brentwood Council, funded spaces will allow men to try the programme for free. The funded spaces mean that there is nothing to lose by trying, so please, come along and give it a try, it might just help you change your life.
“MAN v FAT Football isn’t just about losing weight, it’s about enjoying sport in a safe, friendly environment, learning about healthy lifestyle and diet – and making new friends. You’ll receive lots of support from our coaches who are there to help you achieve your goals, we’ll be with you every step of the way.”
MAN v FAT Football is a unique weight-loss programme, as it centres itself around a six-aside football league. Each week, members weigh-in, before receiving lifestyle coaching, such as healthy recipes and exercise tips. After this, members participate in 28-minute games of six-aside football, with additional goals awarded to the team which lost the most weight that week, as an additional incentive to reach fitness goals.
There are currently more than 150 MAN v FAT Football clubs across the UK. The programme was created to differ from traditional weight loss classes and combines the beautiful game with achievable weight loss goals for men.
In addition to football sessions, MAN v FAT players also receive off-the-pitch support including healthy meal recipe ideas and tips on general fitness.
Players also get free access to a bespoke mental health platform through MAN v FAT partners JAAQ.
