MAN v FAT’s soccer community recently smashed through 30,000lbs lost on the scales and the guys there continue to impress with their weight loss.
Our leagues that launched in May are coming toward the end of their first season, so we’re checking in on them to see how things are going.

As the end of the first season approaches, how would you sum up your MAN v FAT experience to date?
I’ve had a great time. Our team won on the pitch and combined. We have a great time playing together. I’ve also really enjoyed subbing on other teams.
What were your pre-season targets and have you managed to achieve those?
Pre-season target was to lose roughly one pound a week, on average. I’m on track for that. I was 224 or so and I’m now 209. I’ve really been able to dial in my diet and stick with it over the weekends.
What has been the biggest surprise to you, firstly when thinking about being a part of program, and secondly when it comes to your weight loss efforts?
The support from the other guys has been great. Everyone understands off weeks and helps each other get back on track.
For the weight loss – being accountable has helped me figure out my diet and where I was blowing it in the past. I’ve lost and gained the same 20-30 pounds for years. This time – it’s working and is being done in a healthy and steady manner.
Lastly – our next season is coming fast and I’m looking forward to continuing with the program and my team!

As the end of the first season approaches, how would you sum up your MAN v FAT experience to date?
It’s been a great first season. There’s been a lot of support and positivity all around the 4 teams, and everyone is excited to get into the second season. Several of us have made big strides towards our health goals as well.
I’m set to come in first overall for both the percentage lost and total points earned for the season in our league, so I’m really proud of my own efforts. I think the slight competitive aspect of the league really gave me the motivation to stay on track over the last 14 weeks.
What were your pre-season targets and have you managed to achieve those?
My overall goal was just to see significant progress and feel better in my own body. Week 1 I weighed in at 276. As of today, entering the final game of the season, I am down around 39lbs, so I’d call that a huge success.
My long term goal is to be down to around 210 by the end of 2026, so I’m right on track to hit that goal.
What has been the biggest surprise to you, firstly when thinking about being a part of program, and secondly when it comes to your weight loss efforts?
I do think the social and competitive aspect really did play a bigger part in my commitment to getting healthy more than I anticipated.
Being the team captain, I felt an obligation to lead by example, and to keep pushing myself to inspire my team to also do their best on and off the field.
It really has changed my outlook on exercise and healthy eating habits, and I feel like I’ve been able to take my health goals back into my own hands.

As the end of the first season approaches, how would you sum up your MAN v FAT experience to date?
I feel like a new man, my health is better and I dont feel as guilty as I used to when I enjoyed a heavy meal once in a while. I also have been making better lifestyle decisions and feel more confident because of my new weight.
My teammates and I play football outside MAN v FAT too on weekends and hangout sometimes, this program introduced me to very nice people and new friends. I will definitely be signing up for next season too!
What were your pre-season targets and have you managed to achieve those?
I had 3 targets I wanted to achieve:-
- Become better at football, with all these new people I have learned different techniques and methods to play, even when I play with other players outside MAN v FAT, they can see the difference in my skills.
- Get my weight to under 140, which I am 2 pounds away from.
- Improve my stamina, which now I can play 1.5 hour long games without feeling exhausted the first 10 minutes.
What has been the biggest surprise to you, firstly when thinking about being a part of program, and secondly when it comes to your weight loss efforts?
The biggest surprise within the program is how easy it is to lose weight while also playing one of my favorite sports. When it comes to the weight loss effort, small changes in your day to day life goes a long way.
I have burned almost 500 calories extra each day just because I took my phone calls walking or changed to a stand up PC setup and work.

As the end of the first season approaches, how would you sum up your MAN v FAT experience to date?
It was superb, it is not just a soccer game, it’s a brotherhood of guys training to lose same weight playing the sport that we love. Me personally I want to thank our coach Zac, he always is in top of us with which meals are good for us and with the amount of water we need. Overall it was the best decision to join.
What were your pre-season targets and have you managed to achieve those?
My target was to lose 10 pounds and no I didn’t achieve it. I still struggle with same food choices, but I’m improving with the coach’s help
What has been the biggest surprise to you, firstly when thinking about being a part of program, and secondly when it comes to your weight loss efforts?
No surprise at all. I love soccer all my life so joining the program was easy. On the other hand losing weight was a big surprise in the way that one bad decision on a meal can affect a lot on the scales.
