This dip, it’s luscious, tangy, creamy, delicious! Topped with a smoky savory spicy sweet topping. And it takes just 15 minutes! Once you try this dip, you’ll keep coming back with I can’t believe it’s tofu! I can’t believe it’s vegan!

We make the whipped feta with a block of tofu, but nobody will believe that it’s tofu-based. Even Dalana, my assistant, who is a level 10 tofu skeptic, said that she can’t taste the tofu in this vegan whipped feta at all.

Then, we top the dip with this spicy, savory, smoky, bacon-y, hot honey kind of situation. Of course, vegan. And then there’s a crunchy topping with crisp garlic, some toasty seeds, and pine nuts.

This vegan tofu feta is easy to put together and it will disappear so quickly. You just add everything to the food processor for the tofu feta and it’s done. You crisp up a little bit of the garlic and toast the seeds, and that’s done. Mix the hot honey ingredients together, and that’s done.

It’s just an awesome dip, and it’s packed with protein, from the tofu and the seeds on top. A serving of this delicious dip has 11 grams of protein!

Whipped tofu feta is smooth, creamy, and versatile. You can serve it as a dip with a side of garlic bread, pita, veggies, or whatever else you like. You can use it to make sandwiches with crisp, fresh veggies, and it’s so filling and delicious. You can spread it on the bread with some onion and peppers and bake it to make high protein cheese toast. Or, add it to your charcuterie board with some of my other dips, like my jalapeño popper dip, spinach artichoke dip, or French onion dip. So many ways to use it!!

For the Whipped Tofu Feta

Make the tofu whipped feta.

  • Add all of the feta ingredients to a food processor, and process until everything is smooth. If the food processor is struggling, add in 1 tablespoon of water to help it move along. Also use a spatula to move the mixture in from the edges so that things like miso and nutritional yeast don’t just stick to the edges. Keep processing until everything is smooth and creamy.

  • Taste and adjust the flavor. Add more salt or more tang, if needed. Then spread this on your serving platter with some indents that can hold the hot “honey” topping

Make the crisp garlic.

  • Heat a small skillet over medium heat and add the 2 teaspoons of oil. Once the oil is hot, reduce the heat to low and add the garlic. Continue to cook the garlic at low heat until it starts to get golden and crispy. Remove the garlic slices from the oil, and place them into another bowl.

Make the smoky hot honey.

  • To the same oil, add the pepper flakes. Once the pepper flakes start to sizzle and get fragrant, switch off the heat. Add the maple syrup, soy sauce, smoked paprika, and liquid smoke, and mix that in while the pan is still hot. This will help the flavors to meld and bring the mixture to a boil over medium low .Then switch off heat, let the mixture sit to cool down and thicken a little bit.

Assemble the whipped tofu feta platter.

  • If you haven’t toasted all of the seeds already, toast the pine nuts in a small skillet over medium-high heat until they start to pick up some color, then switch off the heat. 2-3 mins. You can also toast the pumpkin seeds along with the pine nuts, and set them aside. Chop some fresh herbs.

  • Drizzle a good amount of the smoky hot honey over the whipped tofu feta on the serving platter. Top it with the crispy garlic, fresh thyme or herbs, the toasted pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds or any seeds that you want. Toasted pecans will also work great, or some candied walnuts will work great.

  • Serve whipped tofu feta with garlic bread, sourdough, toasted pita bread, cucumbers, crackers, carrots, or serve it however you like. It’s just going to be so delicious.

This recipe is nut-free and gluten-free. To make this soy-free, omit the soy sauce and instead of tofu, use white beans, such as cannellini or navy beans. You’ll need a little bit of water to help blend the beans.
Storage: you can make both the feta and hot honey topping ahead. Refrigerate separately for upto 4 days. When ready to serve, spread feta on a platter. Top with the hot honey, rest of the toppings and serve.

Ingredients

  • tofu – This is the base for the whipped tofu feta. For soy-free, you can use white beans instead.
  • miso and nutritional yeast – Both of these give the tofu feta a cheesy flavor.
  • lemon – We are using lemon zest and lemon juice for a great, zesty flavor!
  • garlic – Garlic adds even more umami to the feta. We are also crisping up thin garlic slices as a topping.
  • dried herbs and spices – For the feta, you need oregano and onion powder. We are seasoning the hot ‘honey’ with gochugaru flakes (or Aleppo pepper flakes or crushed red pepper flakes) along with some smoked paprika.
  • extra virgin olive oil – Adds creaminess to the feta, toasts the garlic, and infuses flavor into the honey.
  • red wine vinegar – Adds extra tang to the tofu feta.
  • maple syrup – This is the base for the vegan hot honey.
  • soy sauce – Adds umami to the hot honey. Omit for soy-free or use coconut aminos.
  • liquid smoke – This is optional but it ups the smokiness factor on the hot honey.
  • toppings – Top this whipped tofu feta with toasted pine nuts, black sesame seeds, and pumpkin seeds or other seeds of choice. We are also topping with some fresh herbs, like thyme.

💡Tips

  • You want to really whip up the tofu mixture in the food processor until it’s super smooth and creamy. Do this in rounds, stopping to scrape down the sides of the canister in between.
  • Make sure that you remove the pan from the heat before adding the maple syrup and other hot honey ingredients. The residual heat from the pan will meld the flavors just fine.
