MAN v FAT Soccer has helped men in the program not only lose over 10,000lbs so far but make countless other health improvements along the way.
Mental health improvements and general wellbeing all move in the right direction as the pounds fall off and that has certainly been the case for MAN v FAT member Josh Moseley.
Josh is a participant in our leagues in Carrollton and The Colony in Texas and has noticed the improvements he’s experienced.
Looking back at the start of his journey, he reflected: “I had been losing weight post-surgery for a bit and had stalled out. I saw an ad on Facebook and the season started the following Tuesday. It was really serendipitous.
“When I stalled out after losing my first 25 or so lbs, I was really discouraged.
“Being on a team with a bunch of people all stiving to do the same thing was immensely motivating. Having accountability from my teammates and not wanting to let them down by weighing in up and getting own-goals was a big motivator on top of my personal goals.”
Josh, who is 35, has made steady progress throughout his time with MAN v FAT and is relishing the fresh lease of life the program has given him, something that has also benefitted his home life.
“I am healthier than I have been in 15 years, at least,” he added.
“When I first started, I could barely make it through 10 min before needing to sub out. Now I can play 2, sometimes 3 games if subs are needed. I can now go walk 18 holes of golf pain free. It almost feels like I have my body back under my control, and that is a huge mental boost as well.
“I have fortunately never been someone who suffers from depression, but I cannot deny the positive effects that being healthier overall have brought with it. My wife has definitely noticed positive changes as well. She says I am a much more tolerable to be around(!) and she loves that I am more willing to go out of the house and do things now.”

Josh (pictured above prior to joining MAN v FAT) works in his day job for Sewell, one of the oldest and most prominent auto dealership networks in Texas. The company not only has a positive reputation for customer experience but also is keen to support its own staff base at the same time.
His progress with MAN v FAT has helped with his work annual physical, as he explained: “My company is very health-focused, mentally and physically. They provide several programs and outlets to help us be as healthy as we can be. They recognize the investment in the people pays off because if we are healthier and happier, it benefits the company as well.
“On top of the programs, we have an annual health screening that checks for certain markers that are indicative of health problems such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides. Overall, there are 7 that are taken into account. If you pass 5 of the 7, you get a pretty significant discount on your health insurance.
“During the most recent physical I passed all of the markers, and I attribute MAN v FAT and the community that we have built in this league for being the main driver of this success.”
Having started that positive momentum, Josh is keen to keep going and further improve his health.
He added: “When I started to lose weight, it was never about a specific number on the scale, I just wanted to be healthy.
“My family has a history of diabetes, and my A1C had gotten to the prediabetic range. That needed to change. This is the same attitude I have now. I have hit several weight loss “goals” along the way to give me something concrete to shoot for but for me it is just overall health!”
