Why did you join MAN v FAT in the first place?
I joined MAN v FAT shortly after my mum passed away. My mum had been helping to look after my two children, so did all the cooking etc. After she passed, it was pretty much takeaway every day for three months. I realised I’d let myself go.
I wasn’t the biggest or fattest, but wasn’t at a good level of fitness in health or mentally. I saw the advert for MAN v FAT and signed up. After five years, I’ve hit my BMI on two separate occasions, as I left for 6 months due to a bad knee, then I came back and achieved my goal again.
What have been the best and hardest bits of your efforts to get to BMI Boss status?
The hardest part both times was getting over the final hurdle and then keeping under my target to not score own goals for my team.
The best part was achieving the goals along the way and feeling better and fitter all the way.
What are the biggest benefits you’re now feeling from being at a healthy weight?
The biggest benefits are the fact I can still run around an 11-a-side pitch at 47 and keep up with the younger lads again.
How important has the MAN v FAT community been in getting you to this stage – and keeping you there?
It was great having the club and team mates behind me on my journey, having mini battles with players to see who hit goals first!
