The Philadelphia Inquirer (The Inquirer) highlighted Independence Blue Cross’ commitment to the community in a new Philly First article. The feature details the IBX Blue Crew associate volunteer program, the 25th anniversary of the group, and the positive impact it has had on associates and nonprofit organizations in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
IBX President and CEO Kelly Munson shared her thoughts on the Blue Crew’s history of service, saying:
“The Blue Crew reflects the best of Independence Blue Cross. For 25 years, our associates have invested their time and talents to strengthen communities across our region. In the first half of 2026 alone, Blue Crew volunteers contributed nearly 10,000 service hours to 272 charities and nonprofits, doubling the number of hours volunteered at this point last year. Giving back is part of our culture, and we’re proud to stand alongside our neighbors as partners in building healthier, stronger communities.”
The story also includes insight from:
- Steve Fera, IBX executive vice president of Public Affairs and president of Government Markets
- Marie Gillespie, IBX Community Affairs programs manager
- James Angelo Christopher, IBX Clinical Care quality coordinator and top Blue Crew volunteer
The CEO of Ronald McDonald House Philadelphia, Susan Campbell, spoke with The Inquirer about the more than two decades of support the organization has received from Blue Crew volunteers.
