The bandaid never healed anything — your body did.
I sat in church yesterday and listened to a message on miracles. The kind you read about in Scripture — water into wine, sight returning to blind eyes, a man getting up off a mat he’d been lying on for most of his life. Good message. I drove home thinking about it.
And somewhere along the way my mind wandered where it usually wanders, which is to the body.
Because there’s a miracle most of us walked right past this morning without noticing. We carry it around all day. We’ve had it since the moment we were knit together. And we mostly only think about it when something goes wrong.
Cut Your Finger and Watch What Happens
Slice your finger open on a kitchen knife. What do you do? You rinse it, you press a paper towel on it, you find the little box of bandaids in the drawer that never has the right size.
Now — did the bandaid heal your thumb?
It did not. That bandaid held the edges close together and kept the dirt out. That’s the whole job. Meanwhile, underneath it, something extraordinary was happening that nobody had to organize or supervise. Blood clotted. White blood cells moved in and cleaned house. Collagen went down like scaffolding. New skin grew across the gap from both sides until it met in the middle and sealed.
Nobody told it to do that. You didn’t have to think about it. You went to bed, and while you slept, your body built new skin.
Break a wrist and it’s the same story. The cast is a hallway, not a healer. It holds the bones still so the bone-building cells can do work they already know how to do. Take an X-ray six weeks later and you’ll see something the surgeon didn’t make. He set the stage. The body did the work.
At the retreat we have a name for this. We call it the miraculous self-healing body. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
The Inside Is No Different
Here’s the part that changes how a person thinks about their health.
The same intelligence that closed that cut on your thumb is working every second on the inside of you, in places you’ll never see. Your stomach lining replaces itself within a couple of weeks. Your liver rebuilds. Old blood cells are retired and new ones made by the millions while you’re reading this sentence. Damaged cells get flagged, broken down, and cleared out.
Your body is not waiting for permission. It is already trying to heal.
That’s the thesis of everything we teach: the body was designed to heal itself, and most of the time the real question isn’t how to make healing happen — it’s what we’re doing that keeps interrupting it.
Because you can put a bandaid on a cut and heal it in a week. But if you take that bandaid off every afternoon and run the knife across it again, you don’t have a healing problem. You have a knife problem.
That’s a lot of us. Not with knives — with what we eat, drink, breathe, and carry.
What the Cutting Looks Like Now
Most of us aren’t out here doing anything dramatic. That’s what makes this hard to see. The cutting is quiet and it’s daily and it looks completely normal.
It looks like eating food that’s been stripped, bleached, heated past the point of life, and rebuilt with things the body has no idea what to do with. Food that arrives with plenty of calories and almost nothing the cells were asking for.
It looks like sugar three or four times a day, every day, keeping the whole system inflamed and busy.
It looks like a home full of chemistry we didn’t think twice about — the cleaner under the sink, the fragrance plugged into the wall, the pan coated with something that made cleanup easier. Small exposures, all day, for years.

It looks like a body that never gets to stop and rest. Short sleep, high stress, no quiet — and the tiredness that comes with it is usually the first thing anyone notices.
None of that is a moral failure. It’s what’s normal in America right now. But normal and healthy stopped being the same thing a long time ago, and the body keeps trying to close the wound while the knife keeps coming back.
Symptoms are usually not the body breaking. Symptoms are the body speaking.
What God Built Into You Already
Genesis 1:29 has been our anchor verse for a long time. “I have given you every herb bearing seed… and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”
That’s a provision statement. Before there was a supplement industry, before there was a single clinical trial, there was food — and it was given on purpose, to a body that was built to run on it. If you want the fuller picture of what Scripture actually says about food, we’ve walked through the passages in order.

Living, raw, plant-based food shows up in the body carrying its enzymes intact, its water intact, its minerals in a form the cells recognize. It doesn’t need to be decoded. It gets used.
And here’s what we’ve watched happen for more than thirty years, with more people than we can count: when you stop the cutting and give the body the raw material it was designed for, it starts doing what it was always going to do. Energy comes back. Digestion settles. Inflammation cools. Weight finds a truer number. Not because a food is magic — because the interference stopped.
We don’t heal people. We’ve never healed anyone. We just help them get out of the way of the One who designed the system.
Stronger, or Weaker
There’s a part of this most people never think about and it should change the way we all think about an ordinary week.
You are being rebuilt right now. Not as an image — literally. Your body makes something like 330 billion new cells a day. The lining of your small intestine is replaced about every five days. Your red blood cells last around four months. Your liver, whatever your age, averages under three years old.

Which means the question isn’t whether you’re being replaced. It’s what you’re being replaced with.
The body builds with whatever is on hand at the time, and some of that you can actually see. A red blood cell built while iron is short comes out smaller and paler than it should, and carries less — measurably, on a slide, under a microscope. Collagen built without enough vitamin C doesn’t hold together properly, because the step that locks the strands into a stable rope requires vitamin C to run. That’s what scurvy is. And the membranes around your cells are built out of the fats you’ve been eating; change the fats for long enough and the membranes change with them.
Same body. Same instructions. Different materials, different result.
So every meal is quietly casting a vote on a question most of us never think to ask: are the cells replacing me this month going to be a little stronger than the ones they’re replacing, or a little weaker?
Over a few months that’s a small difference. Over thirty years it’s a different person.
I want to be careful here, because this is where the subject usually gets sold. Most people aren’t starting from enough. Years of eating the way most of us eat leaves the stores low, and a body building on low stores has been turning out weaker cells for a long time. So this isn’t a fine adjustment at the edges. It’s a change in the raw material — and when people change it in real volume, that’s usually when they start to notice something wonderful.
The one place to be careful is the aisle. More of a single compound in a capsule doesn’t build a better-than-normal cell. More real food is a different thing entirely — not a big dose of one thing, but everything arriving together, the way it grew. The ceiling is on the pills, not on the plants.
And there’s a mercy in the arithmetic. You don’t have to undo thirty years. You just have to change what’s on hand for the next round of building, which starts today whether you participate or not.
Where to Start — Replace, Then Eliminate
The people who last don’t start with a list of what they’re giving up. They start by crowding the good in until there’s less room for the rest.

- Start the morning with something living. A green juice or a large raw salad before anything cooked. Not instead of breakfast — as breakfast.
- Make raw the majority of the plate. Aim for the larger share of each meal to be raw, living food, with cooked food playing the supporting role.
- Replace the drink first. Swap one soda, sweet coffee, or energy drink for water or fresh vegetable juice. Do that one for a week before you touch anything else.
- Take the loudest chemical out of the house. One product. The scented one you use most. Replace it and stop there.
- Give the body the night. Sleep is repair time. Most of the rebuilding happens in the dark, and you cannot supplement your way around a short night.
- Add one green thing you’ll actually keep doing. Barley grass juice powder, sprouts, whatever you’ll still be doing in six weeks.
- Then let the eliminating happen on its own. When you’re full of good food, the old food loses its grip without a fight. This is the part people don’t believe until it happens to them.

Where Supplements Fit
Supplements are tools. They are not the foundation, and they never were.
Soil isn’t what it used to be, most of us started this journey with something to make up for, and there are places where a concentrated form of something helps the body catch up. That’s a real role and we use them. If you’re weighing one against another, we’ve written about what to look for in a whole-food supplement and how the popular ones compare.
But no capsule outruns a diet. If the supplements are the plan and the food is an afterthought, the plan is upside down. Food first. Environment first. Rest first. Then tools.
The Miracle You Woke Up With

I still believe God heals in ways we can’t explain. I’ve prayed for it and I’ve seen it.
I’ve also come to believe that some of the miracle was handed to us at the beginning and has been running quietly ever since — under the bandaid, inside the cast, in the dark while we sleep, without applause.
Your body wants to heal. It’s been trying the whole time.
Our part is smaller than we think, and harder than it sounds: stop the cutting. Feed it what it was given. Then get out of the way and let it do what it was made to do.
That’s not a protocol. That’s stewardship.
Questions We Hear Most Often
What does “the body is self-healing” actually mean?
It means healing is something your body does, not something that gets done to it. Your skin, your gut lining, your blood, your bone — all of it is constantly being repaired and replaced by systems that run without your input. A bandaid, a cast, or a good meal can support that process, but the repair itself belongs to the body.
If my body is designed to heal, why am I still sick?
Usually because the interference hasn’t stopped. Healing is expensive work, and the body has to fund it out of whatever’s left after handling poor food, chemical exposure, sugar, and stress. When those loads come down and the raw materials go up, the body can put its resources back where they belong.
How long does it take to feel a difference on a raw, plant-based diet?
Many people notice more steady energy and easier digestion within the first two to three weeks. Deeper changes take longer — the body works on the most urgent things first, and some of that repair is invisible for a while. Give it ninety days before you judge it.
Do I have to go one hundred percent raw?
No. We teach a majority-raw plate with cooked plant food in the supporting role, and that’s what most people can actually live with for the rest of their lives. Consistency at eighty-five percent beats perfection for three weeks every single time.
Do I still need supplements if I’m eating this way?
Supplements are tools, not the foundation. Depleted soil and years of a standard diet leave most people with ground to make up, and a few well-chosen supports help with that. But they work alongside living food, not in place of it.
Is this a biblical way to eat?
Genesis 1:29 describes the original provision — seed-bearing plants and the fruit of trees, given as food. We take that as a design statement about what the body runs best on, and everything we teach starts from there.
