Why did you join MAN v FAT in the first place?
I first joined MAN v FAT after seeing an advert on social media and believing it could provide the motivation I needed to succeed. Having tried and failed with numerous diets over the years, I decided to fully commit to the programme, despite not having played football for around 15 years.
From the moment I joined MAN v FAT Millwall, I felt welcomed and knew I was surrounded by a supportive group of people who shared my goals. My initial aim was to reduce my weight to below 100kg, losing approximately 40kg over two years.
I am incredibly proud to say that I achieved this target, but I decided to continue working towards my BMI goal. Having started my weight-loss journey at 139.3kg, I am delighted to say that I now maintain a weight of around 86kg and have successfully achieved my BMI goal.
This journey has transformed my life, and I am proud of the commitment and determination that have helped me achieve what once seemed impossible.
What have been the best and hardest bits of your efforts to get to BMI Boss status?
For me, the best part of achieving BMI Boss status would be making consistent, sustainable changes to my diet and exercise rather than looking for a quick fix.
I would start by easing myself into it, for example by playing football, while gradually reducing the amount of fizzy drinks and takeaways I have. Once I started seeing my weight come down, I would then introduce activities such as running and high-intensity workouts. At the same time, I would continue improving my diet until I reached what I would consider a normal, healthy diet that works for me and that I can maintain long term.
Overall, I think the best part of achieving BMI Boss status would be finding exercise that I genuinely enjoy. When you enjoy being active, losing weight becomes much less of a chore and something you can actually look forward to.
The hardest part would probably be those weeks when you feel like you’ve eaten well and exercised consistently, only to step on the scales and find that you’ve gained weight. That’s when you have to trust the process and keep going. Motivation can also be difficult at times, and dragging yourself out for a run isn’t always easy.
However, having a MAN v FAT team counting on you each week, along with seeing the percentage targets and your BMI Boss weight goal getting closer, gives you that extra motivation to keep pushing towards it.
And, let’s be honest, unhealthy food is often much easier to get, whether that’s through a drive-thru or a supermarket meal deal, and it can sometimes seem more appealing than a salad! My advice would be to treat it as a process of trial and error. Do your research, find out what works for you, and don’t be afraid to experiment. You can discover a whole new world of food and drink that you genuinely enjoy cooking, eating and making part of your everyday life.

What are the biggest benefits you’re now feeling from being at a healthy weight?
Achieving a healthy weight has brought so many positive changes to my life. I feel more confident in myself and take great pride in being able to walk into a clothing shop and find clothes that fit me. My stamina and energy levels are better than they have ever been, and I am now able to enjoy a full night’s sleep. I have also stopped snoring, much to my partners delight. I used to suffer from back problems, but these have since disappeared, making a significant difference to my everyday life.
However, one of the most rewarding benefits has been the opportunity to inspire and support my fellow MAN v FAT teammates. Sharing my experiences, offering advice on what has worked for me, and passing on tips and tricks to help others lead healthier lifestyles is something I am incredibly passionate about. Being able to encourage others on their own journeys and show them what is possible is a privilege, and one of the things I value most about being part of the MAN v FAT community.
How important has the MAN v FAT community been in getting you to this stage – and keeping you there?
The MAN v FAT community has been the most effective source of motivation I have ever found to support my weight-loss journey. It has provided me with a team of like-minded individuals who are all working towards the same goal, creating an environment where we can share our achievements, encourage one another and offer valuable support.
I have enjoyed my MAN v FAT experience so much that I am now a member of two clubs: MAN v FAT Millwall and MAN v FAT Bromley. Both clubs are exceptionally well managed, organised and fair, making them welcoming and supportive environments for everyone involved.
I intend to remain a member of both clubs to maintain my weight, continue living a healthier lifestyle and support fellow members in any way I can. I would wholeheartedly recommend MAN v FAT to anyone looking to make positive changes, improve their health and achieve their personal goals.
