Six Senses announces a luxury hotel in Beijing, ChinaBurj Al Arab closes to undergo 18-month restoration
Jumeirah has announced a carefully phased restoration of the iconic Jumeirah Burj Al Arab Hotel, aimed at preserving its legacy after more than 25 years of continuous operation. Opened in 1999, the sail-shaped hotel redefined global luxury hospitality with innovations such as personalized butler service and remains a defining feature of Dubai’s skyline. The 18-month project will be led by renowned interior architect Tristan Auer, known for blending heritage preservation with contemporary elegance. Having trained alongside Philippe Starck and Christian Liaigre, Auer has worked on prestigious projects including Hôtel de Crillon and Les Bains Douches. The restoration will enhance the hotel’s opulent interiors —featuring marble, gold leaf, and Swarovski crystals —while maintaining its cultural and architectural significance. With 198 luxurious suites and numerous accolades from Travel + Leisure and Forbes Travel Guide, the Burj Al Arab continues to symbolize innovation, craftsmanship, and enduring excellence in global hospitality.
Air Canada unveils new Business Class cabin design
Air Canada has unveiled its most ambitious cabin upgrade yet at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, introducing a new long-haul design under its “Glowing Hearted” standard focused on comfort, connection, and a distinctly Canadian identity. Launching first on the Airbus A321XLR and later the Boeing 787-10, the redesigned cabins feature ergonomic seating, larger 4K OLED screens with Bluetooth, and universal power access. Premium upgrades include lie-flat Signature Class seats on the A321XLR and the new Signature Plus Suites on the 787-10, offering larger beds, enhanced privacy, and flexible social spaces. The interiors draw inspiration from Canadian landscapes, using natural textures, wood grain, bronze accents, and signature red detailing, alongside unique elements like maple leaf lighting and sculptural entryways. Beyond new aircraft, Air Canada is modernizing its existing fleet, including Airbus A320 and A321 planes and regional aircraft operated by Jazz Aviation LP, with improved seating, entertainment, and fast Wi-Fi. This investment supports the airline’s growth strategy while elevating passenger experience across all cabins.
Air New Zealand’s bunk beds will soon be bookable
Air New Zealand will introduce its world-first “Economy Skynest” on flights from 18 May 2026, debuting on new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from November. Designed for ultra long-haul travel, Skynest features six lie-flat sleep pods in a bunk-style layout between Economy and Premium Economy, giving passengers the chance to rest comfortably during some of the world’s longest journeys. Each pod includes a full-length mattress, fresh bedding, a privacy curtain, ambient lighting, ventilation, and charging ports, creating a quiet and private space for proper sleep. Available as an add-on for Economy and Premium Economy passengers, Skynest sessions last four hours and are structured around natural sleep cycles, with two sessions initially offered per flight. Developed over several years and tested with more than 200 customers, the concept highlights the airline’s commitment to innovation and passenger wellbeing. Building on earlier ideas like Skycouch, Skynest offers greater flexibility, comfort, and control, helping make long-distance travel more manageable while strengthening New Zealand’s global connectivity and tourism appeal.
Delta Air Lines unveils its next generation Business Class Suite
Delta Air Lines has announced a major investment to introduce its next-generation Delta One suite and upgrade its long-haul fleet, with the new experience debuting on the Airbus A350-1000 in early 2027. Built on a decade of customer insights and two years of design work, the new suites focus on privacy, comfort, and a consistent “home-like” experience across aircraft. The A350-1000 will feature a 50% premium seat mix and newly designed Delta One suites with privacy doors, a longer lie-flat bed exceeding six and a half feet, pillow-top cushioning, smart storage for personal items, wireless charging, and a 24-inch high-definition entertainment screen with Bluetooth connectivity. A new onboard refreshment station will allow passengers to access snacks freely throughout the flight, adding flexibility and convenience. The A330 fleet will also be upgraded with similar suites, including privacy doors in Delta One for the first time on those aircraft, ensuring consistency in premium travel across fleets. Additional improvements include enhanced lighting, reverse-herringbone seating for greater privacy, and accessibility features developed with expert input. The program is part of a broader rollout affecting more than 800 aircraft over five years, reinforcing Delta’s strategy to elevate the in-flight experience and expand premium seating, with most Delta One seats expected to include sliding doors by 2030.
